Radio Link Bonding Usage Requirements and Recommendations

When planning and configuring ETHernet over Multiple Radios, the general requirements and recommendations are as
follows:

(1) Configure all Radio Links in a RL-IME group to the same channel spacing
(2) Assign packet links on either side of a link in a similar way to the RL-IME groups
(3) Configure packet links (maximum 4) assigned to one RL-IME group so that the total speed of these packet links is
maximum 830Mbps. This limitation is introduced to avoid buffer overflow on the U3 B.
(4) Radio Link Bonding should be enabled from the beginning for RL-IMEs with only one packet link to avoid traffic
disturbances when subsequent packet links are added to the RL-IMEs
(5) When two or more ML MMU2 H links are bonded, the total usable data capacity is 95% of the (N) x single link
capacity, due to a 5% overhead added (the net data capacity is reduced by 5%) for each link where N is the
number of links.
(6) When two or more ML MMU3 A links are bonded, the total usable data capacity is 99% of the (N) x single link
capacity, due to a 1% overhead added (the net data capacity is reduced by 1%) for each ink where N is the number
of links.
(7) When two or more links with a mixture of MMU2 H and MMU3 A are bonded, the total usable data capacity is 95%
of the total capacities, due to a 5% of the overall overhead added (the total data capacity is reduced by 5%).
(8) When Static Modulation is used, the radio links should be configured as follows:
a. All radio links in a RL-IME group have the same modulation
b. The speed ratio between packet links connected to the same RL-IME group is less than 4:1
(9) When Adaptive Modulation is used, the radio links should be configured as follows:
a. All radio links in a RL-IME group have the same channel spacing
b. All radio links in a RL-IME group have the same spectrum class. Refer to Mini-Link TN Technical
Description Manual
c. All radio links in a RL-IME group have the same Min Modulation / Min Capacity
d. The Min Modulation and Max Modulation are not set to the same value. If Min Modulation and Max
Modulation are set to the same value, the radio link is treated as if configured for static modulation.
(10) The speed ratio between packet links connected to the same RL-IME group is less than 4:1. The maximum
number of DS1s assigned to one link should conform to the values in Tables 1 3.
