temperature and watch the element go from a gas, back to a
solid and observe how the actions of the atoms change as well.

To introduce the lesson, I will show student 3 objects; a block

to represent a solid, a clear cup of water to represent liquid,
and a balloon to represent gas. I will then ask the students to
discuss with each other for examples they have seen when a
solid turns into a liquid and vice versa. After the students have
finished discussion time, I will tell the students we will be
observing the states of matter at a molecular level, meaning
we will be seeing how the atoms react differently with
temperature.

After the introduction, students can begin the online

simulation. Students are given four elements and are asked to
raise the temperature and watch as the atoms in the elements
change states. After the elements have become gas, the
students will then turn the temperature down and watch the
elements change from gas back to a solid.

Though the simulation is a great visual for students, it does not

give the teacher information to gauge what students have
learned. Therefore, after the simulation students will write
