1. We form present perfect continuous using this pattern

(subject + has/ have + been + verb-ing
Examples:
You have been studying here for trhee years
Have you been studying here for three years?
You have not been studying here for three years
2. Functions

Past present Future

We use the Present Perfect Continuous to show that something started in the past and
has continued up until now.
Examples:
They have bben talking for the last hour
Iwans dad has been working at tha company for thirteen years
What have you been doing for the last 30 minutes?
Miss Narastuti has been teaching at the University fot the last three days?
Why has Nacy not been taking her medicine for the last three day?
Remember:
Some verbs cannot be put into continous tense, such as, love, need, like, have, want,
belong, etc.

We form the past Perfect by using had and past participle (V3)
Subject Had Past Participle
+ I Had Finished My word
+ You Had Stopped Your work
- Her/she Had Not Left The room
- We/ They had Not Left The room
? Had You Finished Your work?
? Had They Left The room
When speaking with the Past Perfect Tense, we often contract the had:
I had Id
You had Youd
He had Hed
She had Shed
It had Itd
We had Wed
They had Theyd

Examples
The train left at 9 am, we arrived at 9.15 am. When we arrived the train had left
Dody want at home when I arrived
really? Where had he gone?
Look at some more examples
I wasnt hungry. I had just eaten
They were hungry. They had not eaten for five hours
I didnt know who he was. I had never seen him before

We can sometimes think of the past perfect tense like the present perfect tense, but instead
of the time being now the time is past.
For example, imagine that you arrive at the statuin at 9.15 am
The stationmaster says to you:
you are too late, the train has left
Later you friends came. And you say to them
we were too late. The train had left.
We often use (had + V3/ past participle) in reported speech after the verbs
said, told, asked, explained, thought, wondered, etc

Look at these examples:

He told us that the train had left
I thought I had met her before, but I was wrong
He explained that he had close the window because of the rain
I wondered if I had been there before
I asked them why they had not finished
