Organisation ofthe Chatity
The Trustees supervise the management and adminislration ofthe Chari
ty.The day to day rtlnning of the
Charity isdelegated to the Executive Director.
Trusteeswith relevantexperience and expertise are recruited on meritfrom among those with a demonstrated
comm itm entto the aims ofthe charity.

Childrenwho have been excluded from schoolare often compl etely failed bythe system.Aspartofa joint
projectwith the London Boxing Academy Community Project,we teach English,maths and otherGCSE
subjectsto teenagers who have been excluded from school.The projecttriesto reach excluded teenagers,
who have often been introublewith the police,by offefing boxing and fitness training.
Ci
vitas facilitated and suppoded the settlng up ofthe New ModelSchoolCompany (NMS),a non-proflt
com pany, independentof Civitas,which aims to m ake excellent traditionaleducation available ata more
affordable cost.Through the NMS we helped to establish a pri m ary schoolin London,Maple W alk School,
with the aim ofkeeping the fees as 1ow as econom i
cally possible.Although the starting ofthe NMS was initiall
y
facilitated by Ci
vitas,ithas never been a subsidiary.ltis an îndependentnot-for-profitcom pany funded by
independent shareholders and certain private trusts. Civitas now focuses on helping children from less
advantaged backgrounds to have accessto NM S school s.
Due to the generosity ofone ofourdonors,we also run a dyslexia bursal scheme forchildren with special
I
earning difficulties.

elsewhere to ensureobjecti

Family and MarriagelThe main schoolsubjectin which the îssue ofthe familyand marriage is raised is

Basis ofaccounting
The FinancialStatements are prepared underthe historicalcostconvention apartfrom fixed assetinvestm ents.

Incom ing resources
Donations and subscriptionsare included as income as soon as they are recei ved,unl essthe donorhas imposed
pre-conditions on the use ofthe funds,in which case the donations are cafried folward untilthe pre-conditi

m et.Grants and statutory funding are recognised once the resource is recei vable by the charity and can be
m easured with reasonable reliabil
ity.Gifts in kind,such as assets given foruse by the charity are recognised as

are recognised as income when distributed.Voluntary help is not recognised in the Statem ent of Financial

Pension Contributions
The Charity operates a defined contribution pension scheme forcertain ofits seniorem ployees.The funds of
the scheme are administered by Trustees and are separate from the Charity. Contributions afe paid by the
Charity and em pl oyees. The pension charge fepresents contributions payable by the Charity forthe year. The
Charity's liabilityis Iimited to the amountsofthe contribution.
