Empowered Learner - Students leverage technology to take an active role in choosing,

achieving and demonstrating competency in their learning goals, informed by the learning
sciences.
o Students use technology to seek feedback that informs and improves their practice and to
demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways
Knowledge Constructor - Students critically curate a variety of resources using digital tools to
construct knowledge, produce creative artifacts and make meaningful learning experiences for
themselves and others. Students:
o plan and employ effective research strategies to locate information and other resources
for their intellectual or creative pursuits.
o curate information from digital resources using a variety of tools and methods to create
collections of artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections or conclusions

Learner Objectives:

The student will create a video demonstrating a warm-up exercise for various fitness activities.
The student will be able to discuss the need for warming up before engaging in physical activity.
The student will score at least an 80% on their exercise video rubric.

The student will explain the process of stretching and warming up

The student will choose the stretches they perform in the video

The hook or Introduction:

Students will review exercise DVDs and online videos of exercise experts. (Shaun T Blokker,
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Anna Kaiser, Dolvett Quince, etc.) The students will participate in a discussion
on the need for daily physical activity. The students will be asked leading questions such as: Is
exercising important? What intensity level should exercises start off with? Is stretching important before

engaging in physical activity? Students will then view videos from Fitness Blenders YouTube
channel. Students will then discuss the differences between the full-length exercise DVDs and the 3 to 5-
minute Fitness Blender videos. What is the fitness goal of each video? Do the videos meet their attended
goals? Do the exercises become dull over time? The students will then discuss injury preventions and
treatments. The project will then be introduced to the students. As part of the project introduction, the
students will be shown middle school student created exercise videos from around the country.

Process:

Week 1: Students Individually Research and Gather information

Students will be exploring and researching. Teachers will be in the position of a Co-investigator
while the students are researching the different types of exercises. Students will be given a criterion
(difficulty, intensity level, prior knowledge, special needs adaptations) to assist them in choosing an
exercise that is appropriate for their projects. At the end of class, the teacher will evaluate the students
research and give them feedback, offering them recommendations.

Day 1
Hook
Watch and Participate in Exercise Videos (DVDs and Fitness Blender)
Discuss Videos

Day 2
Students as Explorers and Researchers
o Students will research on the web (muscleforlife.com, freetrainers.com, exrx.net, etc.)
different exercises by muscle groups
o Students will test the researched exercises individually to determine if they are useful in
working for their assigned muscle groups
o Students will use a rubric (created in Google Forms) to score the effectiveness of their
researched exercise
o Teacher ask leading questions to help guide student research

Week 2: Students Collaborate with Group Members

Students will collaborate with their group project members as they continue their roles of
explorers and researchers. The teacher role will be that of a guide, as the students construct their vision
of their project. The teacher will also take on the role of Co-learner in introducing students to the
iMovie application.

Day 1
Students will continue their roles as explorers and researchers as they collaborate with their
group members on their project.
Groups will submit the five exercises they will include in their projects to the classs Google
Spreadsheet.
Students will watch a three video tutorials (Creating Characters, Posing Characters, and
Storyboard Layout and Text-Bubbles) on the use of storyboardthat.com web service.
Students as Producers, in groups, will use www.storyboardthat.com to create and develop their
scripts for their projects.

Day 2
Students will be introduced to Apples iMovie application
Students as Explorers will complete five iMovie tutorials and their corresponding learning task,
individually, and upload the learning task to the classs Google Drive for assessment
Teacher as Facilitator will monitor the students as they complete the tutorials

Week 3: Students Film, Edit, and Upload Their Projects

Students will use school-issued iPod touches to film their groups exercises. Students will use
iMacs and the iMovie software to edit their video clips into a 3-5 minute exercise video. The teachers
role will be that of a Facilitator. As the students work, the teacher will monitor the process of learning,
but will not control or over-simplify the student tasks. After the final video edits, the students will
upload the videos to a Google Classroom assignment drop box.

Day 1
Students as Producers will film the exercises to be included in their final project.
Teacher as Facilitator/Guide, will monitor the students progress and recommend improvements
for the best final project
Students will download their videos to the assigned IMac for later use
Students will select Royalty Free music to use in their videos

Day 2
Students as Producers will edit their videos clips in iMovie to create a 3 -5-minute exercise
video.
Teacher as Facilitator will assist groups, when needed, with their projects
Students will upload projects to assignment drop box

Week 4: Students Introduce Their Videos to Their Peers

Students will draw a number to determine the order in which the groups will present their
projects. The peer audience will be tasked with providing feedback to the presenting groups in the form
of an anonymous survey, based on a teacher created a rubric, in Google Forms. The scores from the
student-scored rubric/survey will be 25% of the final project grade. The teacher will score the project
using a project rubric which will be 60% of the final project grade. The group members will score
themselves, using a similar rubric used by their peers, but will provide written feedback on the area
where improvements can be made. The group's rubric score will be 15% of the final project grade.

Students draw numbers to determine presentation order

Students introduce their projects to their peers, giving background on why they chose the
exercise
Peers/Audience participates in group project exercises
Peers/Audience offers students feedback via Google Forms Survey
Teacher provides feedback via rubric and written feedback
Group reflects on their presentation via rubric and written feedback
