Instructions for developing your paper:

My Personal Philosophy of Education

Write a 5-page paper (double spaced, Times New Roman font, size 11) that explains
your personal philosophy of education. The paper must follow the template and use
APA format. Make sure to address every item in the template below.

First Page Heading

A centered heading with the following items one under the other: the title of your essay,
your name, the course title, the professors name, the date of submission.

Paper Introduction
Name your philosophy. Explain why you are attracted to this philosophical stance. Is it
due to your own schooling and/or background, what youve seen in schools since your
own school days, the influence of particular persons, texts, other experiences with
children/youth, etc.? It is recommended that you include a famous quote that reflects
your own philosophical position. State the level of schooling and subject field(s) you
hope to teach.

Nature of Schooling
Describe what you believe is the purpose of schooling in a democracy. Be sure to quote
salient course materials/texts to clarify your ideas.
Explain how you as a teacher will strive to achieve these purposes (using relevant
details). Give 1 clear, well-developed example of how this will look in your classroom /
teaching.

Nature of the Learner

Describe what you believe is the nature of the learner. What are your thoughts about
the students you will teach? What do you believe they need from a teacher? Be sure to
quote salient course materials/texts to clarify your ideas. Explain how what you believe
about the learners in your classroom will shape your attitude towards your students,
your expectations of them and how you respond to their efforts to learn. Give 1 clear,
well-developed example of how this will look in your classroom / teaching.

Nature of the Teaching & Learning Process

Describe what you believe is the nature of the teaching/learning process. Describe what
you believe counts as knowledge and how should it be presented? Be sure to quote
salient course materials/texts to clarify your ideas. Explain how you as a teacher will use
subject matter and instruction. Give 1 clear, well-developed example of how this will
look in your classroom / teaching.

Conclusion
Recap your philosophy and reflect on the manner in which your dispositions reflect your
beliefs about being the kind of educator you want to be. Share one or two outstanding
questions/concerns/thoughts you have about becoming a teacher.
