ABSTRACT
PERCEPTIONS ON THE BANGSAMORO BASIC LAW: A SURVEY AMONG
REGISTERED VOTERS IN BARANGAY SERAN VILLAGE, WAO, LANAO

The study was conducted to find out the perceptions of the registered voters
regarding Bangsamoro Basic Law. This study aimed (1) to determine the perceptions
of the registered voters of Barangay Serran Village, Wao, Lanao del Sur on the present
status of the locality, (2) to determine the perceived advantages of Bangsamoro Basic
Law in terms of a) Wealth Sharing b) Power Sharing and c) Normalization, (3) to
determine the perceived disadvantages of Bangsamoro Basic Law in terms of a)
Wealth Sharing b) Power Sharing and c) Normalization, (4) to determine whether the
citizens believe that Bangsamoro Basic Law is the answer to attain long lasting peace
in Mindanao as perceived by the registered voters of Barangay Serran Village.
There were 51 respondents who were selected out of 104 total numbers of
registered voters of Barangay Serran Village, Wao Lanao del Sur using random
sampling method.
The study revealed that the respondents of Serran Village in terms of the
current status of their locality when it comes to social aspects, economic aspects, and
political aspects are satisfied, it got the mean of 3.63 with the descriptive value of
agree. In the perceived advantages of Bangsamoro Basic Law when it comes to wealth
sharing, power sharing, and normalization, it got the mean of 2.09 with the descripted
value of disagree. In the perceived disadvantages of Bangsamoro Basic Law in terms
of wealth sharing, power sharing, and normalization, it got the mean of 3.98 with the
descripted value of agree and whether the respondents believe that Bangsamoro Basic
Law is the answer to attain long lasting peace in Mindanao, it got the mean of 2.23
with the descripted method of strongly disagree.
This study also revealed that the residents of Barangay Serran Village do not
only believed that Bangsamoro Basic Law is the solution in attaining long lasting
peace in Mindanao but also they fear that Muslims would only take Christians for
granted and take all their lands once the Bangsamoro Basic Law is passed and
implemented.
