Management system in occupational safety and health OSH is crucial in an organization

which responsible on monitoring and acting if there are certain safety and health issues exist in
the organization. According on occupational health and safety, there are three main major things
need to be highlighted. The first is hazard identification which a recognizing process of hazard
exist in the workplace. Next is the risk assessment where it is a process where an evaluation of
the risk identified from the hazard. The last is the determination of applicable controls which
measures relevant to eliminate or reduce risk to an acceptable level. Measures are based on the
hierarchy of control measures.

From the visit at the Berjaya Times Square Management Corporation, Kuala Lumpur, the
daily activities for this company at the building is monitoring the safety of the place. They need
to make sure the building is safe from any hazard and they need to make sure the fire alarm
systems such as fire extinguisher and fire alarm in the good condition. Another major work
activity that they conduct is they do maintenance and cleaning activities at the window and wall
of the building by using Gondola machine. Figure??? show the operation of Gondola machine.

The establishment of the safety committee also aids the safety and health issues on the
workplace which part of the worker representative. The committee may include elected safety
and health representatives and also may have other workers elected by the workers to represent
them. The functions of a safety and health committee are to enable and assist consultation and
cooperation between employers and workers; help to initiate, develop and implement safety and
health measures; make recommendations on safety and health rules, programs, measures and
procedures. Figure??? is the emergency action plan made by this company.

 Next is the emergency preparedness and response. An emergency is a potentially life-
threatening situation which usually occurs suddenly and unexpectedly. An organizations
emergency response plan should clearly identify the different personnel and groups that respond
to various types of emergencies. From the past visit at this company, the emergency
preparedness and response initiative are clearly stated. The company realise how important the
safety and health of their workers and make some precaution steps to avoid any unexpected
threatening situation.
This initiative can be in many forms. The most noticeable emergency responses are such
as first aid, evacuation planning and assembly point. The message such as Safety First is
clearly and strategically prompted so that workers and visitor notice the importance of practicing
appropriate safety and health issues. The safety sign also provided at the workplace.

 The usage of personal protective equipment is important in countering and reducing the
hazard on the workplace. The management need some analysis on the usage and some
enforcement need to be done in making sure the PPE is used as stated. From the visit made, the
management shows roughly the analysis of the PPE requirement on the site. It also shows the
PPE needed so that they everyone deserves their PPE in performing their work.
