Summary of Three Web-Based Instructional Resources

Plickers

Plickers is a website that gathers data, organizes classes, and that can be used to play a game in the

classroom. Plickers can be used by teachers to make questions for a game and the teacher can then

print out cards that the students will use the cards to play the game. The teacher can display the

questions for the game in the classroom through the plickers app and the students will use the cards to

answer questions and there will be a camera set up in the classroom that is designed to scan the cards

and record the students answers. The teacher can see what the students answered and then Plickers

can group the student answers by class. Great program for teachers to see what subjects the students

actually know and what subjects the teacher needs to go over again.

Kahoot

Kahoot is a website designed for teachers to make quizzes and games for their students that can be used

in class. The site can also be accessed by students to take the quizzes or games made by teachers.

Organizations can also use Kahoot for the workplace as a form of training. Also, common people can use

it just to make games and play them with friends for fun. A teacher might use this application as a

review for students. It can be a nice, fun review for students right before a test and it is a way for

students to work in groups/pairs. This application could also be used to introduce a new topic to

students before the actual lesson.

Nearpod

Nearpod is a website that can be used to make lessons with questions, quizzes, videos. The website can

also be interactive. Teachers can use it as a form of homework where the student will just access with

website with a code given by the teacher. The teacher can view when a student accesses the lesson,

they can see students answers and even share the answers with the class. In the lessons the teacher can

move slides in the application as the student is on the website. This is a great application that can open

a lot of opportunities. The application is almost like an online class. Where the teacher controls what the

students can see and when and they can grade the work immediately.

Selected Application for Deeper Learning

I selected _Kahoot__________________ for my quiz/learning activity.

VA Standard of Learning

Standard 3.5

food chains. Key concepts include

a) producer, consumer, decomposer;

Synopsis of the Learning Experience

I used Kahoot to make a ten-question science quiz/game for third graders as a review of

material that has already been taught. The questions I incorporated in my quiz/game came straight from

the VA SOL. I included multiple choice and true and false questions in my product. I could use this at the

end of a lesson when I have finished teaching the unit to my class and we are preparing for the test. This

program could be a game I have for my class to play to review all the lessons in the unit to wrap

everything up. I could also use this program at the end of every lesson in the unit to just wrap up that

lesson in a fun way. This program could also be used as just a game to play in class to help with learning

the material. I have described the program as a quiz and a game. This program could be either one. I

could use this as a quiz where my students work alone and submit their answers, or I could just have this

be a game and my students could work in pairs or groups and answer the questions with some friendly

competition.

I found It very rewarding to have to do this assignment because it gave me a taste of what I will

have to be doing when I become a teacher. I will have to take the material I am teaching my students

and turn that into a quiz or test. Making the quiz was not as hard as I expected it to be, realize that my

questions will probably have to be more challenging for my students, so they will not get bored with my

class. I found it challenging to make the different answers for my quiz. I also found it difficult at times to

try and figure out how I should word the different questions. The next time I use this application I will

try to make my questions and answers more creative. The next time I use this application I will try to

work on the aspects that I found challenging and improve on those. I was intimidated by this aspect of

teaching with having to make lessons and then having to make the assessments, and I know it will take

practice and sometimes even trial and error. This assignment has shown me that there will be

challenges but I can do this.
