Title: Sample of Weekly Reflections

Date: Fall 2015

Artifact Description: The following artifact is are from conversations that were had
between email between my University supervisor and myself during my student teaching
experience. I sent weekly reflections to my supervisor throughout the semester, and the
artifact shows these reflections and my supervisors and Is conversations about the
reflections, including feedback and other information.

ALIGNMENT
Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment
This artifact best aligns with standard nine of the Wisconsin Teacher Development and
Licensure Standards which states: The teacher is a reflective practitioner who continually
evaluates the effects of his or her choices and actions on pupils, parents, professionals in
the learning community and others who actively seeks out opportunities to grow
professionally. This artifact aligns with standard nine because it shows that I am able to
accurately able to reflect on my experiences as a teacher, and learn and grow from them.
The reflections show that I am able to look at my interactions with students, colleagues and
parents and evaluate them so that I can learn from the experiences and be better prepared
in the future. The artifact demonstrates my self-evaluation from week to week, and how I
use this to gear my practices in the future.

UW-Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Statement

Alignment
I believe this experience best aligns with KS4.A. of the UW-Platteville School of Education
Knowledge, Skill, and Disposition Statements which states: The candidate makes an
accurate and thoughtful reflection of his/her teaching effectiveness, is aware of specific
elements of his/her teaching that contributed to successful instruction, and can offer
alternative teacher action to predict the future successes of alternate approaches. This
experience aligns with this standard because in my reflections, I demonstrate that I am able
to thoughtfully and accurately reflect on my own teaching experiences, and learn from
them so that I can be more effective in the future. Through my conversations with my
supervisor I was able to address key points of the week, and given feedback for how I may
be more successful in the future.

Secondary Alignment
KSD4.e. Grows and Develops professionally
KSD4.f. Shows professionalism

Reflection
What I learned about teaching/learning:
I have learned that it is essential to be reflective when teaching. Allowing for reflection,
helps guide learning for students. Its important to not just reflect at the end of the day or
lesson, but to be aware during teaching so that you can make adjustments to your teaching
as necessary so that students are provided with the most meaningful learning experience.

What I learned about myself as a prospective educator:

I have learned that it is essential to be reflective as a teacher. Reflection should occur at all
points of the day, and should be honest so that one may adjust their teaching for the future.
I know that after each interaction with a student, I find myself naturally reflecting on what
worked what didnt. I always make mental notes of the outcome of an interaction or lesson,
but often too I will take a post it note and jot down some ideas so I can refer to them in the
future. This process works the best for me as it helps be a reference for future planning, as
well as for providing reflections to my university supervisor when required.
