Here's what we're learning this week:

Reading: Reading The Winners Choice and discussing economics, choice, and being a
good citizen. Enduring Understanding: readers understand that they can learn lessons

Turn over for more information


through the characters and events in stories. Learners understand that people choose to
use their resources to get what they want and need.

Phonics: Introducing beginning S blends and syllabication.

Writing: Gathering information on a chosen topic and beginning to create a visual


representation of their information.

Grammar: Declarative sentences. Sentences that are short and to the point.

Math: Working on teen addition strategies, adding doubles, and further exploration into
place value.

Social Studies/Science: Christmas kind of took over the last week of school...I might actually
start the economics unit this week.

Other news:

Star of the day: The star of the day will still be bringing in their favorite stuffed animal
to show the class.

Jan. 15- Anchored in Excellence Kickoff Assembly!
Jan. 22- No school
Feb. 9- Half day, noon dismissal
Mar. 5- Half day, parent teacher conferences
