Software Description
2.3.13 Cluster
The SyncViewPlus cluster plug-In functionality, provides a high-availability cluster
or failover cluster. A failover cluster is a set of servers that are configured so that
if one server becomes unavailable, another server automatically takes over for
the failed server and continues processing. Each server in the cluster has at least
one other server in the cluster identified as its standby server.
All database data, Syncview Plus files and settings are replicate.
Cluster can be used and supported with SyncViewPlus Network Manager and
Network Manager advanced. (For more details please see “Cluster Installation
and Configuration” in installation guide manual)

The Network Manager Advanced, in addition to the features of the Network Manager,
allows hierarchically configuring the network by specifying a NM and several RMs. This
deployment allows balancing the network load on several machines. It’s aimed to
control large networks of up to several hundreds of NEs.
As shown in this figure, in case of RM1 failure, the NM acts as a replacement machine
while waiting for the RM1 to be operational again.
The Network Manager Client is the GUI only version of the Network Manager. It can
perform all Network Manager tasks by using the services and the database provided by
the server on which it is connected.
The Supervisor of SyncView™ PLUS allows connecting and manage via remote
several servers machine with a Network Manager or Network Manager Advanced
installed.
3.1.1 Introduction
The Element Manager (EM), provides access to Oscilloquartz equipment via a
graphical element interface, over an RS-232 serial communication link or TCP/IP
remote connection. This element interface includes status examination,
configuration and control. In TCP/IP connection, there is also a CLI (Command
Line Interface), to communicate directly with the equipment using MML (Man

3.2.1 Introduction
The MainView displays a survey of the network administration and equipment, in
the form of element icons presented on geographic maps. These maps display all
of the elements within the network in a hierarchical plan view. This hierarchy
allows the operator to ascend or descend to higher or lower levels of map detail,
and network representation. The element icons includes basic equipment, and
groups of equipment or Nodes, situated in their relative positions within the
network maps.
Each descended level shows more detail, and is represented by a different map
of the network. Each map is implemented as an equivalent map background
within separate windows of the Network Browser.
MainView gives an instance summary of the entire network, and its alarm states,
at a single glance. Each element icon gives a summary of the alarm conditions
found at that position.
Each level corresponds to a window of the Network Browser, and permits the
visualization of the installed equipment, which compose the network.
It is possible to get to an element icon from the map or from the Tree Network
element.
The MainView is divided in two components: A tree with the network topology
and a Network Browser that represents the network topology graphically, from
the highest network view down to Network Element level.
Element Manager mode is always available, this mode allows the user to connect
to the equipment via Remote (TCP/IP) or RS232 (Serial communication port).

Contextual menus are dynamic. They propose the available functionalities for the
selected equipment.
These same options are available in the application menu.
Alarms Sound: This option, when activated, allows generating a sound when an
alarm is generated by the equipment.
Different sounds to choose from are found in the “Sounds” system directory.
3.2.3 NM / RM Architecture
3.2.3.1 NM
The Network Manager (NM) is the top layer in the Network Synchronization
Management system, it gives a conceptual overview of the network.
Equipment (Network element) can be managed by a NM and a RM. This
redundancy provides fault tolerance. A NM manages NEs (Network Elements)
which can be RMs, NE, or RMs and NEs together.
3.2.3.2 RM
The Regional Manager (RM), is the central layer in the Network Synchronization
Management system. The base software for the RM is exactly the same as for a
NM, and therefore the same software can be deployed in both roles. The differences
are only apparent on configuration and therefore help to ensure consistency
between NM and RM. The SyncView™ PLUS software when acting as a RM simply
disables it’s NM management capabilities and concentrates on managing only NEs .
3.2.4 Supervisor
3.2.4.1 Introduction
The SyncView supervisor not differ from Syncview Client except it extends its
functionalities. It can connect remotly to several SyncView servers. It can perform all
Network Manager tasks by using the services and the databases provided by the
servers on which it is connected.
3.2.4.2 Configuration
For Supervisor configuration, please refer to “Installation Guide on Supervisor
configuration chapter (2.10)”.
Each descended level shows more detail, and is represented by a different map of
the network. Each map is implemented as an equivalent map background within
separate windows of the Network Browser.
MainView gives an instance summary of the entire network, and its alarm states, at
a single glance. Each element icon gives a summary of the alarm conditions found
at that position.
Each level corresponds to a window of the Network Browser, and permits the
visualization of the installed equipment, which compose the network.
Only one server can be selected (on tree view or on map view). Except the Main
View the Event Viewer and the Network Editor which reflect the entire network (all
servers) state, other plugIns reflect the selected server state, i.e opening Security
Manager plugIn will open Security Manager for selected server.
3.2.5.1 Introduction
The time synchronization utility serves to propagate the time from one source
equipment to the rest of the network elements
2

1) Synchronization hour.
Select the hour of the day at which to synchronize the equipment.
2) Synchronization source.
The time source used which must be either local time of PC or Network Element
time.
When creating a totem with these characteristics (refer to the "Installation &
Administration Guide"), in the browser there are two possibilities, showing
spontaneous alarms for this equipment (Event Viewer) and open the manager
software.
The local element management software must be installed and functional on the
SyncView™ PLUS computer.
When opening the manager software, the communication with the CommServer
(spontaneous port), will be closed while the manager software is open. That’s
mean when a spontaneous arrive in this moment the SyncView™ PLUS can’t
receive this alarm or event, but when the local software is close an alarm audit
will be make, and then the alarm status is synchronized. Several different User
interface can be open at the same time.
When using a totem with these characteristics (refer to the "Installation &
Administration Guide"), in the browser, there are two possibilities, showing
alarms for this equipment (Event Viewer) and open the WEB page interface.
The communication with OSA 53X0 equipment family is accomplished via a web
page. Refer to the OSA 5331 GRANDMASTER and OSA 5320 SLAVE
documentation respectively.
3.4.1 Introduction
The Event Viewer displays all active alarms and events at the equipment (NE) or
AlarmLog associated. It records filters and analyst. The Event Viewer can be also
used to view archived Alarm/Events
