postgraduate.

institutions of India or foreign countries.

d. Reciprocity with foreign countries in the matter of mutual recognition of medical


qualifications

e. Regulating professional conduct of Doctors registered under the Indian Medical


Council Act, 1956.

5. Whether the objectives of the ABs are being achieved – failure in any.

Objectives have been achieved

1. Justification for continuation of the AB (in 5-10 bullet point, giving specific reasons,
highlighting the public purpose that is being served.

1. The Council is regulating Medical Education in the country in an efficient and


transparent manner.
2. Keeping in view the huge demand of doctors in the country, more medical
colleges are being opened. In the year 2008 there were 288 medical colleges
whereas at present the total strength is 460.
3. Postgraduate seats have been increased from approx 28,000 to 31,000.
4. National Entrance Examination test policy has been implemented for admissions
in MBBS/PG as well as common counseling for all MBBS/ PG courses so that there
is transparency in admissions.
5. The Council is implementing a comprehensive Digital Mission Mode Project
solution to integrate all is inter operations. The project is likely to be completed
by May, 2017.
6. The expenditure to run the Council is met from its own sources i.e. registration,
annual inspection fees and certificate charges.
7. There is no financial burden on Govt. of India.
