Drive for Haiti

On August 19, 2017, Gamma Kappa Chapter began promoting their “We
Got Sole” shoe drive for the children at Haitian American Caucus School
in Crois-des-Bouquets, Haiti. The shoes will be donated to children in
grades K-12. Children who attend school in Haiti have to walk miles to
school through gravel to get an education. We wanted to make sure the
children began the school year with
a new pair of shoes.

On September 8, 2017, Gamma

Kappa Chapter began promoting
their ‘Helping Hands for Haiti’
drive. Books and bookbags will be donated to the children in Haiti at the
Haitian American Caucus School in Crois-des-Bouquets. The books that
are being donated will be used to help the children learn English.

Gamma Kappa’s Blood Drive

On September 22, 2017, Gamma Kappa Chapter hosted a Blood Drive from 12pm-
6pm at the Livingston Student Center Multipurpose Room with New Jersey Blood
Services. Sixteen of our sorors participated in the drive and six of our sorors donat-
ed blood!

Gamma Kappa’s Tree Rededication Ceremony

On October 1, 2017, Gamma Kappa
Chapter held their tree rededication
ceremony at Rutgers University. In
1982 Gamma Kappa Chapter of Zeta
Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was the first
organization and Chapter to recognize the Atlanta child murders. This year
the tree was rededicated to the unjust attacks on black lives. Each Soror and
guest tied a ribbon on the tree and dedicated it to a cause of their own.

Day party at the Rutgers Zone on Livingston Campus with Alpha Psi
Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. Free food and games were
provided to anyone who came out to the HOPE Day Party. Each of
the organizations collected canned goods and toiletry items that were
donated to the Student Food Pantry on campus.

My Black is Beautiful
:
On 9 October 2017, Gamma Kappa Chapter held their "My Black is
Beautiful” program. During the program they discussed Black beau-
ty, what it means to be Black, embraced cultures, and listened to
some shared experiences regarding black beauty as well as race.

On October 28, 2017 the Sorors of Theta Omicron Chapter at Rut-

gers University-Camden Campus hosted TowerZ of Terror. Youth
from the city of Camden were allowed to trick or treat in the resi-
dence hall by going to each floor receiving candy. Each floor was
hosted and decorated by other organizations on campus. There were
arts and crafts, games, face
painting, and a movie for
the kids to enjoy. The
brothers of Mu Psi Chapter
of Phi Beta Sigma Fraterni-
ty, Inc. even dressed up in
dinosaur costumes to entertain the children. There were over 100
kids who participated in the safe Halloween alternative. The pictures
show Sorors Mariam Hisseine, Kayla Childs, and Simone Craig (left

Sippin’ and Swappin with ZDZ

On the eve of their Chapter retreat, the ladies of ZDZ got together to enjoy each
other’s company while they “Sipped and Swapped”. Gathering those items that
were either too big or too small, “fell” out the closet or just needed another home,
the Sorors of ZDZ giggled, sipped, swapped stories and tried on their “new” items
before bidding them farewell. Even one of our Pearlettes got into the fun. With our
“new” Blue and White finery, we’re definitely ready to do the work of Zeta!

Wall of Famer Zeta Delta Zeta Recognized

for $10,000 Donation to Local Library
On Saturday, November 11th, Zeta Delta Zeta (ZDZ) Chapter was inducted into the Willingboro Public Library
(WPL) $10,000 Donor Wall of Fame. WLP Director Christine Hill recognized ZDZ for over 20 years of dedi-
cation to the library’s mission to “transform, empower and entertain individuals and the community”. Ms. Hill

enjoyable and interactive learning experience for residents of Burlington County.
Sorors Lynette N. Harris, Angelica Russell, and LorieAnn Wilkerson-Leconte represented the Chapter at the
presentation of the engraved Zeta Delta Zeta plate on the $10,000 donor plaque.

The Ladies of Sigma Zeta Zeta Chapter of Hudson

County were excited to kick off the 2017-18 school
year with another successful Z-Pack It Up Community
Service project! Sorors began collecting donations at
their Annual Family and Friends cookout held in Au-
gust and cosponsored with Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity,
Inc.’s Eta Phi Sigma Chapter. The two Chapters split
the collected items to make their respective donations.
Sigma Zeta Zeta Sorors continued the donation and col-
lection efforts throughout the summer and on Saturday,
September 16, 2017, Chapter Sorors, their Archonette
and Amicette Clubs stuffed 52 backpacks with school
supplies to do-
nate to students in need. Each backpack included necessary items
such as notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, binders and glue to ensure
that students have a successful school year.

Twenty-five backpacks were donated to a classroom at their adopted

school, PS #15 in Jersey City; 10 are being shipped with other local
collection efforts to help families' impacted by Hurricanes Irma and
Harvey; and 17 were donated to the Bayonne DCP&P office.

Sigma Zeta Zeta Chapter of Jersey City is proud to help families ease
the financial burden of returning to school. Whether it's the challeng-
es of meeting basic needs, the challenges of being in foster care with
nothing of your own, or dealing with a major hurricane and the loss of all belongings, Sigma Zeta Zeta Chapter
is committed to serving those in need.

Xi Iota Chapter is off to a great start to the semester. On

September 11, 2017 they had Meet the Zetas. This event
allowed an intimate setting for students to get to know the
members of Xi Iota personally before their tabling event at
the Greek Organization Fair on September 13th. At the
Greek Organization Fair, Xi Iota continued to engage with
the students and also performed a stroll. Along with show-
ing off
who Xi
Iota is, they also cospon-
sored an event with Delta Xi
Delta Sorority called “Henna
for Hope.” The purpose of
this event was to raise mon-
ey for Delta Xi Delta philan-
thropy “To Write Love on
Her Arms.” This philanthro-
py focuses on raising awareness for suicide prevention. We handed out infor-
mation about suicide prevention and gave Hennas to each student or faculty
member that came pass the table. We thank those who have been supporting
us thus far this semester and cannot wait to bring more to the Montclair State community this semester.

Epsilon Xi Zeta Chapter's Adopt A School

at Joyce Kilmer Middle School
Epsilon Xi Zeta Chapter has made a commitment to again partner with
Joyce Kilmer Middle School located in Trenton, New Jersey. This
school year started with a bang for Kilmer students as Sorors donated a
total of 729 items, including backpacks, notebooks, pencils and an ar-
ray of other school supplies. During our initial meeting with the princi-
pal, Ms. Paula Bethea, goals and objectives were determined and a cal-
endar of events and activities for the year was created.

At the first meeting with the seventh grade students, we were able to
discuss their goals and objectives for the current school year, their de-
sires for what they would like us to facilitate when we meet with them
and to reintroduce ourselves as we met with them as sixth graders.

Finally, we sponsored a very successful jewelry party to generate funds to offset expenses for our Adopt A
School program. "Way to go, Epsilon Xi Zeta!"

Chapter participated in the Z-Pack It Up initiative through its collec-
tion of school supplies to support local children in need. In conjunc-
tion with its Youth Auxiliary group, donated items were packed and
hand delivered to the Division of Child Protection and Permanency
in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Over 1,300 hundred items were col-
lected valued at about $850 dollars. This is the Chapter’s 5th year

AAXZ Lands in the Top for Monmouth and Ocean Counties
On September 16th, the dedicated ladies of
Alpha Alpha Chi Zeta was presented with a
plaque for their annual participation with
March for Babies. The award recognizes the
ladies of AAXZ as the Top Community Team
in both Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Since
its charter in 2015, AAXZ dedication to
March for Babies has not only shown in their
physical commitment but in their financial commitment as well.
Each year the chapter has either met or exceeded their financial
goal of $1,920. Their work within the community has not gone unrecognized. AAXZ will continue to exceed
and excel in its commitment to the March for Babies. While doing so, we hope to be examples in the com-
munity for others to follow.

. Neptune Day
On Saturday, September 16th the Township of Neptune hosted its annual
“Neptune Day;” a day of fun, entertainment, information and fellowship. This
year Alpha Alpha Chi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was honored
to be a part of the festivities. AAXZ promoted breast cancer awareness and
provided voter registration forms for both Monmouth and Ocean County resi-
dents. Working alongside other groups and organizations allowed AAXZ to be
actively involved in the community and hear the feedback of the people con-
cerning the town, breast cancer issues and the upcoming elections.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

For the month of October, the Ladies of Alpha Alpha Chi Zeta
have raised awareness and funds in support of Breast Cancer.
AAXZ member Soror Tracy Durham is a Breast Cancer survivor,
and we strive to honor her in our fight against Breast Cancer. On
Sunday, October 15th AAXZ participated in the annual Making
Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk held in Pt. Pleasant Beach,
NJ. Each and every year members of AAXZ dedicate themselves
to promote awareness and be active in doing so, through word of
mouth, social media and printed materials. This year the ladies of
AAXZ were able to raise a total of $6,771 with the help of our
family, friends and community. AAXZ is fully committed to
spreading awareness throughout the community.

Sisterly Outing
Alpha Alpha Chi Zeta has a rising
star among them! Members of the
chapter supported one of their
very own, Soror Tamika Reed-
Newman, who was casted as the
lead role in the musical Memphis.
Memphis ran from Friday, Sep-
tember 8th to Sunday, September 10th at the Kelsey Theatre in West
Windsor, NJ. Soror Reed-Newman played the aspiring singer Feli-
cia Farrell and did an impeccable job. Her performance was one to remember and displayed a promising out-
look for her acting and singing career.

Trick or Treat
Halloween is a day for the kids in the community to have fun, dress up as
their favorite characters, and get lots of treats. The ladies of AAXZ
signed up to volunteer for the McDonalds of Neptune 3rd Annual Trunk
or Treat. Due to unforeseen weather conditions, the Trunk or Treat was
canceled. The ladies of AAXZ collectively purchased many treats prior
to the cancellation. The next best idea was to donate the treats. AAXZ
donated several goody bags of treats to the children currently living at
the Catholic Charities Linkages in Tinton Falls, NJ. The families at the
Linkages were very excited to receive the treats for Halloween. Catholic
Charities Linkages is a two-year, two level program structured to en-
hance self-sufficiency skills for residents to transition into and maintain stable, independent living in the
community. This program is designed for individuals or families who have experienced homelessness. And
with the help of Catholic Charities they are able to utilize all resources available.

Assisting During Thanksgiving

The Center in Asbury Park, NJ called and the ladies of AAXZ answered.
The Center in Asbury Park is a volunteer based New Jersey not-for-profit
service organization, providing support services for people living with HIV/
AIDS and their caregivers. The Center offers its clients and volunteers a
safe haven in order to instill a sense of community and stability in their
lives. As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches the ladies of AAXZ donated
various food items to assist The Center in providing baskets for the families
in need. AAXZ is happy to be a blessing for those in need and will always
answer the call to help.

OOZ JOINS THE FIGHT AGAINST HUNGER

September was Hunger Action Month, so Omicron Omicron
Zeta Chapter joined the fight against hunger by donating food
to “The Shop” Food Bank. The Shop, Students Helping Other
Profs, was established at Rowan University so no student
would go hungry while getting an education. Many students’
financial aide does not cover food everyday or the month out-
lasts their money. Soror Stephanie Hawkins delivered our
non-perishables to the Food Bank.

Road Tripping. On September 23, the ladies of Beta Alpha Rho Zeta
Chapter took a road trip to Washington, DC
to visit our house and Howard University.
While the trip wasn’t a first for some, it was
for others and an overall grand experience
for all. We had the luxury of having Mad-
ame Grand Wright and Regional Director
Bivins, Esq., among others, as tour guides.
While 1734 was the highlight of the trip, we truly enjoyed the bonding time
that ensued as we ripped up the highways, roamed the streets of DC, photo
bombed Howard University and took in some culture and food at Busboy & Poets Café.

Rock the Vote. On October 7th, BAPZ hosted their

first Voter Registration drive in Somerset County at
Franklin Township Library. Not only did we get the
chance to introduce Franklin to Zeta Phi Beta Sorori-
ty, Inc., but were able to educate residents on the can-
didates running for office in the November election
via voting information sheets. The Chapter received a
warm welcome in person and through social media for taking an active
role in one of the county’s social problems.

Being A Helping Hand. On October 21st, BAPZ joined Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Inc.’s Nu Xi Omega Chapter and NPHC of Central Jersey to collect and
sort food and clothing for those in need. The
various groups met at the Stop and Shop in
Somerset, NJ to participate in the community
service project. All items were donated to the
Cathedral Community Develoment Corporation
and the Thanksgiving program of Mt. Zion
A.M.E Church.

Making Strides. In addition to
raising money, the chapter pictured
here with Madame State Director
Highsmith and members of HOZ,
took to the pavement in Piscataway
to Make Strides for Breast Cancer.
This was the Chapter’s first year
participating in the walk and look
forward to many more walks to
come.

Clowning Around. October 28th, was the

perfect day for BAPZ to participate in a
Trunk or Treat activity in Somerset, NJ. The
purpose of the event is to promote a safe and
fun environment for neighborhood children
and families. The Chapter had fun clowning
around with the neighborhood children as
they tried to use our gumball machine (truck trunk) and collected bags
of candy from the various car displays. Stay tuned, we are already
working on our next Trunk or Treat theme.

Thank You for Joining Us. At our November meeting, we welcomed

the presence of our 14th State Director Anjanette Highsmith. Madame
State Director had the opportunity to
see the workings of her 14th graduate
Chapter. We truly appreciated having
her around as we conducted our busi-
ness and celebrated the official recla-
mation of our sorors. Sorors Janeen
Sivills, Desiree Gray and Shirin Qud-
dus were showered with cake and
gifts for returning to the sisterhood. To say they are a perfect fit for the
Chapter is an understatement. Their matching energy and worker mentality
is sure to add to the Chapter as we continue to grow, bond and do the work
of Zeta. Welcome home, Sorors!!
