HEAD FOOTBALL COACH ROD SHERMAN RESIGNS

FROM VALOR CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO — December 22, 2017 — Valor Christian High School Athletic
Director Jamie Heiner announced today that the school’s head football coach Rod Sherman has
stepped down. As Valor’s first athletic director, Sherman played a founding role in its athletic
program, starting in January 2007 to prepare for the school’s opening in September 2007.

Sherman served as assistant coach and offensive coordinator during the Valor Eagles’ four
consecutive state championships from 2009 through 2012. He then took over as head coach,
succeeding Brent Vieselmeyer, to lead the team in the next four consecutive state competitions
and win the championship title three more times in 2013, 2015 and 2016. Sherman’s head
coaching record while at Valor was 57-11.

“Coach Sherman developed our student-athletes and programs on two foundational values of
Valor athletics: competitive excellence and Christian faith,” said Heiner. “His active commitment
to both values has left a deep and lasting imprint on our school as a whole and in the lives of
our students and alumni.”

Building on the momentum of Sherman’s leadership as athletic director, and continuing under
Heiner’s leadership since 2015, the athletic program at Valor now includes 24 competitive
sports. To complement the Eagles’ record in football, the school’s male and female student-
athletes have won 19 other state championships in baseball, basketball, cheerleading, golf,
lacrosse, soccer, softball, and swimming and diving, and they have been runners-up in 20
additional championship contests.

Valor athletes have also received recognition for their character and dedication, including 175
named as 1st Team All-State athletes and 24 as Player of the Year by the Colorado High
School Activities Association (CHSAA) and Gatorade. From the eight graduating classes in the
school’s history, 273 athletes have been recruited to play for 126 colleges, nine have signed
contracts with professional teams, and one has competed in the Olympics.

Reflecting on the athletic accomplishments of Valor students and on Sherman’s tenure, Head of
School Kurt Unruh said: “Rod was one of the very first hires I made at Valor, when we needed a
proven leader to transform vision into reality. He championed the cause of physical, mental and
spiritual growth in our students through athletic programs that empowered them to achieve an
incredible record of success.”

Sherman leaves Valor with a spirit of gratitude. He said in a written statement:

I am incredibly proud of what all the Valor athletic programs have accomplished since I
was hired as founding athletic director. In football, I was blessed to serve under Coach
Brent Vieselmeyer from 2007 to 2012, and it has been a very special blessing to serve
as head coach for the last four years.

I will always treasure my time at Valor, but it has become apparent to me that this is now
the right time to step down and pursue other opportunities. Education, coaching and
ultimately the development of Christian young people has been an important part of my
life, and I rest peacefully knowing that God will reveal future opportunities in His time.

I also want to express my gratitude to the dozens of coaches I have been privileged to
partner with in the development of the football program at Valor. I also have deep
appreciation for the young men whom I have had the opportunity to coach and for the
incredible committed parents within the Valor community.

I believe the future of Valor football is incredibly bright, with numerous returning players
and a strong freshman class this past season. I wish the Valor community and all
players—past, present and future—the very best in all their endeavors.

Consideration of and response to employment inquiries for the position of head football coach will
begin immediately through Valor’s website: www.GoValor.com/welcome/careers.
