EZ Drill® Premium Squeeze Packer

®
e EZ Drill premium squeeze packers with metallic-ceramic-composite (MCC) buttons
are sliding-valve packers primarily used for squeeze cementing. ese tools are specifically
designed to work in casing grades of Q125 or higher. e tools are constructed of frangible
materials such as cast iron, brass, aluminum, and rubber, making this tool easily drilled.

e valve arrangement improves performance in high temperature and high-pressure areas,

especially when the valve is cycled repeatedly. e valve also performs well when it is cycled
under conditions in which fluid cannot be held static, especially when there is pressure or
flow from below the tool.

Operation
When the packer is run to setting depth using a mechanical setting tool, the steel hose and
swivel are hooked to the top of the drillpipe and circulation begins. During circulation
through the pipe or tubing, the packer is worked up and down, which clears debris from the
packer and packer seat.

Aer circulation is stopped, the workstring is rotated the specified number of clockwise
turns. is rotation moves the setting sleeve downward so that it unlatches the lock ring and
sets the top packer slips.

A series of applied pulls and hesitations allow the packer elements to expand properly and
contact the casing ID until the tension sleeve parts.

Pressuring up to 2,000 psi (13.79 MPa) below the packer as it is beginning to set is an option
to help set the top packer slips.

e pressure must be released before the tension sleeve parts so that the packer’s internal seal
is not damaged.

Aer the tension sleeve parts, the maximum permissible tubing weight is applied on the
packer, which helps set the slips and packer elements more tightly. e setting tool is then

pulled above the packer, and the workstring is rotated so that the setting tool is placed in the
operating position. e sliding valve can then be opened, and fluids can be pumped through
the packer.
