 How many are boys?
 How many are girls?
 Compare the number of boys and girls.
 What comparing phrases can we use to compare?
( as , in contrast, is to)
To compare we can use the concept of ratio. Ratio
is a comparison of two quantities.
Skills
 How do you write the comparison of the number of

the boys to the number of the girls using colon?

The first term is 20 and the second is 15. It may also

be written as 20:15.

Ratio must be expressed in simplest form, which

means that the terms are relatively prime to each
other.

(Show-me-board) Show the blocks. Give the ratio

using the colon form.
