METHOD STATEMENT
Waterless Urinal Installation/Retro‐Fit
Health & Safety Note: Please ensure correct PPE is worn. Please visually check power and battery
tools to ensure they are fit for purpose. Use them correctly.
N.B. Appropriate notice and clearance should be obtained before chlorination is commenced.
1. ARRIVAL AT SITE OF WORK
a. On arrival at the site of work, engineers should ensure to park in a safe, well‐lit are of the car
park, not in an area to cause any obstruction.
b. When getting in and out of parked vehicles and especially whilst loading or unloading it is
essential that you do not put yourselves or any other person at risk of Slip or Trip Injury.
Beware of wet/icy/sandy/oily car park surfaces.
c. Go to security office to sign in; sign in the visitor’s book, giving names, company name, date
and time of arrival. Company identification will be produced. ID badges will be worn.
d. If not told, ask Security for the following:
i. Fire Alarm procedures.
ii. Location and method of operation of fire alarms and fire fighting equipment in the
area in which they will be working.
iii. Location of Fire Exits.
e. Ask to see the Site Manager or his representatives, introduce yourself and explain the work
that is going to be carried out.
f. Ask the Site Manager for the following information:
i. Fire Alarm procedures.
ii. Location and method of operation of fire alarms and fire fighting equipment in the
area in which they will be working.
iii. Location of Fire Exits.
g. Collect tools and equipment from vehicle ensuring all items are carried in the correct
manner and will not result in strain injuries. Store them in a safe area in the store.
h. Cone off your working area.
i. Carry out Risk Assessment.

2. COSHH SUBSTANCE ABS CEMENT
a. ABS Cement is highly flammable, irritating to eyes and repeated use may cause skin to dry
and crack.
b. COSHH information is available on request.
3. SCHEDULE OF WORKS
a. Display notices to warn staff and visitors not to use the toilets when waste pipework is being
worked on.
b. When using ladders/steps ensure that they are properly positioned, tied off if possible or
otherwise secure. They must also be fit for purpose.
c. Wherever possible the interruption to mains or tanks water should have as little down time
as possible.
d. Flush urinals to clear any waste that may still be remaining. This also can be done using a
bucket of water.
e. After flushing, the water supply can now be isolated ready for the installation of new traps
and pipework.
f. Remove traps and pipework from urinals; ensure that any spillage is cleared up.
g. In some cases removal of pipework will not be necessary as new fittings may reconnect to
old. When pipework is renewed it will need to be taken back to gully or soil pipe. If this is not
accessible the pipework should be connected as close to gully or soil pipe as possible.
h. Ensure pipework has continuity of flow (i.e. incorporating a minimum 7.5° fall).
i. When traps and pipework are complete a flow test is to be completed to ascertain that all is
watertight and checked.
j. Once flow test is completed, install inserts (cartridges) into urinal bowls.
4. POST SCHEDULED WORK
a. All tools should be packed safely away and removed by engineer on departure.
b. All areas should be clean and tidy will any spillages promptly cleaned with the correct
materials and mopped up so the area is dry and no slips can occur.
c. Public warning notices should be taken away by the engineer.
d. Complete paperwork, taking photographs if necessary. Sign out of visitor’s book and let Site
Manager know work has been completed.
