PREPARING A RESEARCH TITLE
(As general research problem statement)
1. The title should reflect the scope of the study
2. It should be limited to 12-15 words
3. Avoid or minimize the use of articles
4. Must be catchy and interesting
5. Must be new and crispy
6. Must have international character – this means that the words used are universal or
can be understood in other countries.
7. Avoid abbreviations which are not familiar in the global perspective
8. The title must accurately reflect the most important results or objectives
Note: Good research problem presents a novel (new, fresh, original) contribution in
the study area. It has the potential to be cited by other researchers.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS IN CONDUCTING QUALITATIVE RESEARCH
In the conduct of qualitative research, Japos (2014) stated that the study should
possess the following:
1. The study should empirical characteristics such as practicality or being
experiential in nature. This involves any acceptable strategy like survey, case
study, archival, quasi-experiment, observation, historical and the like.
2. Theoretical studies or those which are hypothetical and are aimed at advancing
current theory or adopting theory to local condition. This means that these are
theories which the researcher aims to test in the local setting.
3. Theoretical studies which aim at reviewing and at synthesizing existing theories.
4. When writing the paper, it should posses a higher level of writing style,
grammar and use of language.
5. The research should present a definite new contribution in the areas and lastly;
6. The research proceeds from a sound theoretical foundation.
It is clearly stated in the previous chapters that qualitative research is fitted to
those areas which do not have or are still limited in literature. This would also aid in
developing follow – up studies in quantitative methods.
There is really a need to survey related literature in order to determine if there
are already existing researches in line with the target study.
