PREVIOUS PRACTICE
• CESC Primary Distribution Network(20/11/6/3.3 kV)
was drawn on plastic plates by permanent ink.

• Permanent and temporary isolations were marked with

red ink and pencils respectively.

• Relevant operational information are noted on Plastic

Plateswith pencils.

• Augmentation of network was incorporated in plastic

plate by shifting/deleting/redrawing manually.
LIMITATIONS
• Fading out of temporary isolation marks with time
• Incorporating augmentation of network was difficult
• Network drawn on plastic plate was static
• Relevant operational information were written on plastic
plate with pencil
• Identification of feeders and sources were manual and time
consuming with possibility of error.
• Simultaneous viewing of one particular network was not
possible.
• Handling plastic plates was physically inconvenient
• Non--availability of latest network status at other locations
Non
• Additional requirement of updating Diagram Books
BENEFITS
• Digitisation of Primary Distribution Network
• Establishing Electrical Connectivity of entire
network
• Facility of Manual/Online Updation under multiuser
environment with provision of event logging
• Provision for Dynamic Colour Coding of network
• Provision for Remote Terminals in view only mode
• Provision for Alphabetical Searching of installations
• Identification of feeders through Tracing function
• Use of Note for writing relevant operational
information
• Application of Jumper/Ground/Cut
BENEFITS (Contd.)
• Provision for maintaining Essential and Not Updated
status of feeders
• Availability of D/S wise list of abnormal isolations
• High speed and flexibility in operation
• Reliability and dependability of highest order
• Flexibility for integration of future Distribution
SCADA
• Availability of Trigger Report and Equipment Out of
Service Report
• Availability of Database for Consumers and Sources
DMS CONFIGURATION
• Software - Siemens Proprietary Sinaut Spectrum
4.5
• Operating System - Solaris version 8.0
• Hardware Configuration - consists of 4 number
Servers and 2 number User Interface connected
on dual LAN in distributed architecture. Each
UI is connected to 2 numbers 46'' Plasma and 1
number 24'' TFT monitor for seamless viewing
across the displays.
• 18 number Windows PCs with 24'' TFT for
remote viewing from different locations.
IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE
• Kick off meeting took place in April 2006
• Factory acceptance test held in September ‘06
• 85 plates were digitised and loaded in the system
• Database created and checked by CESC
Engineers
• Augmentation work scheduled in March’07
• System set for trial operation from 01.05.2007
• Change over to new system of operation since
16.06.2007 after successful trial operation .
