Background: Persistent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is a common form of congenital heart disease and forms
about 5-10% of total congenital heart disease. Transcatheter closure of PDA has become the safe procedure
of choice for treatment of PDA without surgery.

Objective: To determine the outcome of transchateter closure of PDA using di erent types of devices in
Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital.
Method: From 2002-2016 data was retrieved from medical record at the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital,
Jakarta. 432 patients who underwent transcatheter closure of PDA, were retrospectively identified and
studied. The PDA was closed by Amplatzer duct occluder I (ADO I), Amplatzer duct occluder II (ADO II),
Amplatzer septal occluder (ASO), Amplatzer membranous VSD occluder (AMVO), Amplatzer vascular plug,
and Nit occlude PFM coil.

Result: Four hundred thirty-two patients underwent transcatheter closure of PDA under general
anesthesia, consisted of 139 (32.2%) male and 293 (67.8%) female. The median age was 5.29 years and
median weight was 11 kg. The median size of PDA was 3.65 mm. The types of device were Amplatzer duct
occluder I (ADO I) 393, Amplatzer duct occluder II (ADO II) 15, Amplatzer septal occluder (ASO) 1, Amplatzer
membranous VSD occluder (AMVO) 1, Amplatzer vascular plug 2, and Nit occlude PFM coil 20 patients.
There was 323 with complete closure and smoky residual in 44 patients, nine had small residual and two
had migrated device. Complications encountered included temporary bradycardia in 6, SVT in 1, and
anemia in 11 patients. There was no significant in aortic or left pulmonary artery obstruction.
Conclusion: Transcatheter closure of PDA is safe and effective for closing PDA
