Call Log Integration for Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage

Call Logs are generated in Cisco Unified Communications Manager when a call is made to the desk
phone of a user.
To synchronize Mobile Communicator with a desk phone, Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage monitors
the desk phone using a CTI user. This CTI user is configured within Cisco Unified
Communications Manager and is associated with the phone line of the Mobile Communicator user.
For Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage to communicate with Cisco Unified Communications Manager,
Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage needs to be configured with at least one (and up to four) user accounts
that are CTI enabled and with the hostname of the Cisco Unified Communications Manager server
running the CTI service. Each user monitors up to 250 lines. This process works as follows:
1. A call comes in or is placed by a IP phone corresponding with a Mobile Communicator phone.
2. Cisco Unified Communications Manager generates an event for the Cisco Unified
Mobility Advantage server.

Note The Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage server generates call logs for calls placed from or received by
the IP Phone only. For calls that are placed from or received directly on the mobile phone, the mobile
phone generates a local call log. The call log includes sender name, contact phone number, read status
and length.

3. Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage uses the event to create a call log entry on the server and then
synchronizes these with Mobile Communicator.
4. The entry is sent to the Mobile Communicator client after the call is finished.
Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage references Active Directory to know which user the call log should
be sent to; therefore, it must be able to uniquely identify the directory number of a user in Active
Directory. Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage also uses the Telephone Number field to match the data
from the call log to a Mobile Communicator user. This means that you cannot have duplicate telephone
numbers configured inside Active Directory; otherwise, Unified Mobility Advantage will not be able to
uniquely identify the users.

Username and Password Considerations

Before the Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage Enterprise Server can talk to the Cisco Unified
Communications Manager server, the Cisco Unified Communications Manager server must be
configured to contain at least one (and at the most four) application user accounts that are CTI-enabled.
These user accounts should be associated with the office phones of the users that are being enabled to
use Cisco Unified Mobile Communicator. The Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage Enterprise Server uses
these accounts to monitor activities on the associated office phones to generate integrated call logs on
Cisco Unified Mobile Communicator.
The exact number of user accounts to create in Cisco Unified Communications Manager depends on how
many Cisco Unified Mobile Communicator users are activated on the system. Create one user account
per 250 Cisco Unified Mobile Communicator users. A maximum of four user accounts can be created.
Each user account can be assigned a maximum of 250 office phones to administer.
When creating a user on Cisco Unified CallManager version 4.x, in the Cisco Unified CallManager
Admin Portal, check the “Enable CTI Application Use” check box that is on the User Configuration
window for an existing or new user designated to be the Cisco Unified CallManager user.

Determine Communication and Firewall Ports

When creating a user on Cisco Unified Communications Manager 5.1 or 6.0, assign the user to the

This chapter describes how to install the Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage Operating System and the
Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage Enterprise Server after you have completed the preinstallation tasks
outlined in Chapter 2.

Note The server on which you install Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage will be reformatted during the
installation. We suggest using an unformatted server.

Install Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage Operating System

Procedure

Step 1 Insert the Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage OS DVD into the DVD-ROM drive of the server on which
you are going to install Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage.
Step 2 Boot the computer from the DVD.
Step 3 The system checks that this is a valid platform. You do not see this check unless your platform is invalid.
• If your platform is invalid, the system displays an error message, aborts the installation, and displays
a log with information.
• If your platform is valid, the installation continues.
Step 4 The system checks that there is an existing operating system. You do not see this check unless you have
an existing operating system, in which case the system asks if you want to overwrite it.
• If you choose not to overwrite the existing operating system, the installation process aborts and the
DVD ejects.
• If you choose to continue the installation, the system overwrites the existing operating system and
any existing data will be lost. You have 30 seconds to choose to continue; otherwise, the system
aborts the installation and ejects the DVD.
If your system does not have an operating system, the installation continues.
Step 5 The computer performs a system check that inspects the hard drive, the RAID, and the BIOS.
• If the system does not need to reconfigure any part of the system, it displays a green check mark
next to each component name and continues.

Table 4-17 Call Control Configuration—Cisco Unified Communications Manager Screen

Field Definition
Extension Regex Field used to search Active Directory. The regular expression
configured in this field is used for:
• Identifying an extension number that Cisco Unified Mobile
Communicator monitors for call control features.
• Identifying an incoming or outgoing call as an extension call.
The phone number (ANI/DNIS) received in incoming or
outgoing calls could be in extension-only format (internally
dialed calls) or complete local-number format (direct inward
dialing)
For example:
Assume that your area code is 408 (NPA = 408), and Direct Inward
Dialing Prefix is 625 (NXX = 625), and that the Directory Numbers
(extensions) defined in your Cisco Unified Communications
Manager server are in the form 3xxx or 4xxx. The DID for the user
would be 408-625-3xxx or 408-625-4xxx.
The regular expression to monitor extensions will be [3-4][0-9]{3}.
To match ANI/DNIS received in incoming or outgoing calls to an
extension, you must add a prefix pattern to the regular expression. In
this case, the prefix pattern is 625. For the server to extract the
extension-only portion for monitoring, a grouping of extension
pattern is required. Grouping is done by using parenthesis. Using the
above example, the extension regular expression should be written
as:
(?:625)?([3-4][0-9]{3})
• The "?" following the prefix group indicates this is optional.
• The "?:" after the opening parenthesis in the prefix group tells
the engine not to count this group. That way, whether the prefix
is present or not in the number, the engine can extract the first
group as the extension-only portion.
• The {3} means the number of digits of the previous expression,
such as [0-9] in the above example.
The server automatically matches additional variations of these
numbers using the previously configured prefixes. Thus, if the area
code is configured as 408, then the regular expression above would
allow the server to identify 4086253125, 6253125, and 3125 as an
extension number.
Local Number Regex Enter a regular expression for matching locally dialable numbers.
For North America, this is:
[2-9][0-9]{6}
National Number Regex Enter a regular expression for matching nationally dialable numbers.
(excluding NDD) The NDD is automatically included as part of this and does not need
to be specified as part of the expression. For North America, this is:
[2-9][0-8][0-9][2-9][0-9]{6}
