The relationship between economic growth and environment

protection has been source of grt controversy for a long time.

On one hand many experts belive that growing economic
activity and extracting economic resources cause destruction in
envoirment ,on other hand some ecomince growth argue that
its not possible to have economic development w/o extracting
natural resources which is not harmin our environment and
some experts belives that economic growth is long and stady
process which olso involve environment protectin.
“care for environment is often portrayed as detrimental to
economic growth” said by achim Steiner fomer director of
ICUN the world conversation union.

Many region of the world have witnessed momentous economic

and social changes since the world war 2 .the industrial
production of world had increased by 23% from 1995 to 2002
in which agri production by 62% manufacturing pro by 40%.
This has led to serious
enviromntal disturbance at both local and global levels. most
countries in the world are are experiencing deforestation,
degradation, water pollution, water shortage, disastrous air
pollution, the problems of air and marine pollution, acid rain
and harmfull waste have become major concern for countries.
beside this greenhouse omission is resulting in global warming
and its consequences includes climate change, temperature
extreams, sea level risig natural disasters.
Environment sustainability in 21st century shuld not be
concern for only envirimentalist but of everybody who uses
resources on this planet . the major concern or question is
arised weather the present period of globalization and ecomic
growth is cuasing envorimental collapse then in my view the
answer is yes ……….three major enviorment concern arises
with the trade is
1.use of harmfull product like polythene ,plastic, etc
2.harmful wasteage arises from the produced good in factory
like gas and water pollutioin
3.transporting movement use for trading of product

The asian development bank have been counitously warning

the enviormental degradation in the world putting ppl health
and livehood at risk.as NICHOLAS D KRISTOF have wrote “
it kills 3 lakh ppl each yr mostly children and elderly and yet it
is scarcly noticed”
Heavy economic growth are cause enviorment connsequenses
on poor who depend on agriculture and other natural
trade.thel lack pure water supply, live along the roads , and in
industial areas.like in the asia pacific region approx 670 million
ppl live on income less than 1$ per day ,more than one in every
10 person are effecting from pollution problems, these issue
demand urgent action for envoirment conservation as well as
further economic growth.

Since
Our envoirment is on the risk there are some institution which
are organized to protect envoirment and take necessary
steps….
One of them is WTO ,creted in 1994 wto have become onbe of
the most powerful undemocratic body on earth.it has been
granted with wast power which include judge weather the laws
of nation our in favour of envoirment .the rules are regarding
public safety, health, natural envoirmnet, clean air water, wild
places etc.
1.Recently this organisatio have prevent America and other
nation to import goods which are not meeting envoirment
standards
2. another act was paas named MARINE MAMMAL
PROTECTION ACT specifying regarding preservation or to
protect fishes like dolphin from tune fishermen
3. in japan, the WTO ruled against them to import harmful
fruit which cantains dangerous invasive species.

Thus because of these harsh rules to protect envoirment many

nation have become frightend and working on rules. Not only
wto there are some companies which are working according
enviorment protection.

Economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region is at the

crossroads. The rapid increases
in industrial and agricultural production as well as the
rising levels of consumption have
resulted in degradation of the environment both in
quantity and quality. Meanwhile, the
benefits of this economic growth have not filtered down
to all levels of society and about twothirds
of the world’s poor live in the region. Given the limited
environmental carrying capacity
of the region as well as the enormous need for
economic development, strategies are
needed to harmonize the two imperatives of economic
growth and environmental
sustainability. A promising strategy to do so is based on
the concept of sustainable
development economically sustainable,
environmentally sound and socially
equitable development. Currently, many opportunities
are available to shift to a different
trajectory of sustainable development in the region
( these portunities are
catalyzed by strong political will to integrate
environmental concerns into government
policies and utilized by all stakeholders, we can say with
confidence that economic growth
and environmental conservation can go together in the
region.
