CHAPTER1
How The lce Maker Works
To simplifythe descriptionof the icemakeroperation,we havedividedthecompletecycleinto two sections,
"FREEZETIME" and "HARVEST TIME".

Freeze Time
As soonas the freezercompartmenttemperaturedescendsto approximately +l3oF.,a thermostat, actingon
a leverarm, energizesthe timer motor switc'hand startsthe motor. Seeligurel. The timinggearis thus slowly
turnedthrougha f,ighreductiongeartrain.Theicemakeris nowoperatingin theFREEZETIMEpartof thecycle.

Harvest Trme
Near the end of the timinggearrevolution, the wire sensorarm movesdown into the cubestoragebin.See

it will returnto its original
th-estoragebin is not full and the sensorarm is permittedto continueunobstructed,
positionand the cyclewill continue.

At this time, the cube tray beginsto rotate. After a few degreesof rotation, the motor control switchis
"LOCKED lN" and the HARVEST is allowedto continue, regardless of anytypeof shut'off(manualorthrough
motor controlthermostat).

After rotatingapproximatelyi40 degrees, one corner of the tray engagesa stop.whichpreventsthat part of

the tray from rotiting further. SeeFigui3. As the shaftcontinuesio turn, the tray is twistedapproximately 40
degreeiwhich loosensthe cubesfrom the tray surface. The tray stop is then retractedand the tray is rapidly
released, thus shuckingall ice cubesinto the storagebin.

The traycontinuesto turn to approximately and the tray
