UAE general summary and Places to visit in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)

UAE general summary

The United Arab Emirates, commonly called the Emirates, is the federal monarchy situated in
the Western segment of Asia. It borders the Arabian Peninsula, the Persian Gulf, and Saudi
Arabia while Qatar and Iran are also its neighbors. The United Arab Emirates covers a stretch of
more than 67000 square Kilometers. The country is a union of 7 emirates, formed in 1971. Abu
Dhabi is its capital, though independent leaders rule each of the Emirates. The United Arab
Emirates has established itself as a prime exporter of petroleum and a hub of technological
innovations with appreciable architecture and artistry. Having gained independence in 1966 from
the British, the predominant language spoken in the United Arab Emirates is Arabic but also
English is used.
The climate experienced in the United Arab Emirates can be classified as subtropical-arid. The
summers are usually hot while winter is often warm. In August, the temperatures in the United
Arab Emirates soar to maximums of about 45 degree Celsius. On the coastal plains bordering the
Persian Gulf, the temperatures are usually higher than many other parts of the country. However,
the mountainous regions of Al Hajar experience lower temperatures because of their elevated
altitudes. In February, at the peak of winter, the temperatures drop to an average of 13 degree
Celsius. In September, southeastern winds, which are humid, blow over the coastal region,
making it inhabitable. The winds are called the Sharqi, meaning Eastern Winds. The average
rainfall received in the mountainous parts of United Arab Emirates averages at 350 mm, while
the coast boasts 120 mm of rainfall. The rains are occasioned by dust storms, resulting in
flooding of the otherwise desert.
