COURSE GOALS
The goals of the English For Nursing are to have participants
1. develop communicative competency in dealing with work
2. enjoy the process and enhance their motivation to learn and contribute, and
3. appreciate the value of bilingual–bicultural abilities for thier lives and work in
globalized world
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, students will have developed
1. more advance communication skills in English language, especially knowledge in key
areas of nursing
2. a grammatical foundation and facilitate language use, with special emphasis on
pronunciation, correct syntax, and verbal expression;
3. extra-linguistic and paralinguistic features of language use;
4. culturally appropriate language skills.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This intermediate level language course is designed to prepare learners for dealing with
work demands and to provide access into effective communication in English. The classes
are devided into 10 (ten) units with respectively emphasis on advance knowledge in key
areas of nursing
Instruction consists of 20 hours of formal classes spread over a 2 months period. Various teaching
methods are employed, recitations for aural comprehension, and intensive grammar exercises. The
English for Nursing course emphasizes oral expression and listening comprehension,
Classes and language activities are taught by experienced, professionally trained, English
speaking teachers using oral proficiency-based methods
ASSESMENT PROCESS
Assesment is an on-going process and will be conducted throughout the course. Assesment
is conducted in various ways and is based on several aspects
1. Appropriate student participation and the quality of thier performance.
2. The degree of attainment of student’s ability an all 4 skills
3. The quality of homework tasks
4. A written portfolia
5. Results demonstrated through evaluation given at middle and end of the course
