Royal Laws of the Kingdom of Mercia

Written 26th May 1056 A.D.

Royal Line of Succession


The line of succession in the Kingdom of Mercia must follow these
specific guild lines. The heir is selected by the current king in power. The Heir
Has the choice to accept or decline the Throne. Should such an event happen it
goes to down to each person in the capital until a leader is picked. Should no
one in the capital want it the Throne passes to the leader of the most populous
settlement in the realm.

House of Barons
The House of Barons is to allow every claim to get a say in the policies of
the realm. All claim leaders are automatically granted title of Baron with
conditions. The conditions to obtain this title are as follows; 1) Must be in
Mercia. 2) Must have three guild members. 3) Must in Mercia for two months
with a well-established settlement. This House is allowed to create laws for the
king/queen's approval. The King or Queen however does have the power to not
enact the law or modify it within reason. The House of Barons must hold one
meeting every week.
Royal Tax Code
The system of taxes that are to be completely laid out at this time. There
may be additional taxes levied by other rulers with the amendment must
passing the House of Barons. The Current Base tax rate is to be set at 40 flax
or one of the following: 40 Wheat, 40 Cabbage, 40 Coal, 5 Silver. This can be
changed by the House of Barons.

Claiming Land within the Kingdom


Those who wish to settle in Mercia must met the king or his heir to
obtain a royal charter for their village. In order to have a tier 1
monument there must be 1 other person in the guild besides yourself. To
obtain a teir 2 monument you must have 4 people living in your
settlement. Finally, to gain a tier three monument You must get
permission from the house of lords and the King. No one is permitted to
obtain a teir 4 monument but the capital city.
Laws of Warfare
These laws are sanctioned by the King or Queen Alone. These are not
changeable by the House of Barons. In the event of an external war All Citizens
of Mercia are to wear purple and orange tabards. Every claim must commit
forces in defending the realm. If you are living in Mercia and want to reap the
benefits of the lands you fight for the right to live here. Anyone who fails to
fight for the Kingdom will be punished as seen fit by the King or the House of
Barons.

Joint Alliance Law


The House of Barons has the control to make permanent alliances. In
order for an alliance bill to pass it must be majority rule. The King may enter
into Temporary alliances. This being a limit to Defensive alliance with a time
limit no longer than three in game months. The King must go to the House of
Barons for the time to be extended or ratified into a permanent alliance.
Keeps and Walls within the Kingdom
Laws about keeps and walls within the Kingdom are to be change by the
King alone. The House of Barons is to have no powers over this law should
anyone attempt to propose such a law their claim will be revoked and their
goods forfet and the will have to leave mercia with nothing. The only settlement
to have Castle walls is the capital. Teir 2 and 3 monuments may have stone
walls. Teir one may have wood walls or palisades. Only the capital is to have a
castle keep. Teir 2 and Tier 3 monuments may have stone keeps. Teir 1
monuments may have wood.
