Multiplication
• Start by ignoring any decimal points and perform the multiplication as you would normally.
• Once you have the answer, you must now place the decimal point in the correct position.
• The number of decimal places in the answer is the same as the total number of decimal places in the question.

2. 3 × 72.82
3. 3.4 × 6.8
4. 43.21 × 7.2
5. 0.023 × 0.042
Dividing by whole numbers
• Ignore the decimal point and calculate as you would normally.
• Once you have the answer, you must now place the decimal point in the correct position.
• The decimal point in the answer goes directly above the decimal point in the dividend.

2. 64.02 ÷ 3
3. 2.822 ÷ 4
4. 38.786 ÷ 11
5. 0.0144 ÷ 6
Dividing by decimal numbers
• Change the divisor into a whole number by shifting the decimal point to the right.
• Shift the decimal point in the dividend to the right by the same number of decimal places.
• Now complete the division in the same way as dividing by whole numbers.

2. 2.144 ÷ 0.08
3. 5.1 ÷ 0.6
4. 0.04034 ÷ 0.8
5. 0.948 ÷ 1.2
Multiplying and dividing by multiples of 10
• For example: 1.2 × 30 is the same as 1.2 × 3 × 10
• For example: 8.4 ÷ 20 is the same as 8.4 ÷ 2 ÷ 10
• Split the multiplier or divisor into non‐zero part and zero part.
• Perform the calculation in two steps, this help to speed up your calculation.
