Multiplication
• Fractions do NOT need to have the same denominator to be multiplied together.
• To multiply fractions, simply multiply the numerators together, and then multiply the denominators together.
• Always check your answer to see if it can be simplified.

• If possible, always cancel fractions first before multiplying.
• Cancelling can be done vertically or diagonally.

Multiplying fraction with a whole number
• Rewrite the whole number as a fraction with a denominator of 1.

Division
• The reciprocal of a fraction is the fraction flipping upside down, i.e. swapping the numerator and denominator.
• Dividing by a number is the same as multiplying by its reciprocal.
• Therefore, to divide by a fraction, you simply multiply by its reciprocal.
