Amanda E. Hine
Summer She was very engaged with us in our discussion. Feedback were given with valuable
2017 resources to help us clear our understanding.
She supplies many tools for learning the material. She is also available anytime.
She is very accessible and makes it clear that it is okay to ask questions..

Spring 2017 challenge people (us) who often expressed that "we don't really have ethical issues in
PT." Amanda was great at explaining concepts and driving both discussion and
reflection. She also took feedback at midterm.
she is great at being neutral and showing both sides. She was really good at dealing with
peoples' complaints, subtle and overt. She was never frustrated by them and I was
impressed.
she deftly answered all of our questions every time! I felt she taught the material very
well where I was able to understand the concepts easily.
She breaks down material in a manner that makes it easier to understand and she is
constantly seeking feedback to improve the course.
her ability to manage our class in an environment where everyone can offer their strong
opinions and her explanations of content
great sense of humor, held my attention, very effecting method of presenting material
She make things clear and interesting. She's very good at holding attention and having
fun.
It was more similar to the other half of the class. I spent way more time on my final paper
than my friends in the other class did. I think the moral theories should not take up as
much time. I felt like we ran out of time for other subjects because we were trying to go
over theories so everyone understood I thought the midterm MC was too easy. Many
students did not do the reading for the class, they just did the minimum to write a journal.
I fully read all of the articles and felt like I wasted my time afterward because more of the
information was not talked about or tested on. Clearer expectations. I know this class is
still being worked on, but it is hard to keep up with a class that is always changing. Some
interprofessional collaboration would be helpful It was hard to keep up with some of the
jargon Amanda used in class. I am not a bioethicist, so I don't expect to understand
everything she says, but some of it goes way over my head.
Fall 2016 She gave lots of feedback on papers and debates, and allowed us to make corrections and
re submit the assignments for a better grade. I really appreciated that she said in class
that she doesn't like to just give a grade and have us forget about it, which is why we
were allowed the opportunity to make corrections on all of our assignments. I believe this
helped us understand the material better and produce better work.
She was everything I could ask for in a professor as she was always empathetic of any
views or ideas, very flexible in assignments and gave excellent constructive criticism, and
so easy to have a conversation with.
she was very understanding toward students and made it sure the every single person
understood what we were learning in class. i found her to be someone that was easy to
relate to and being able to relate to your professor helps a lot with being able to learn.
she makes time to make sure we all understand the information and challenges us to think
and to speak out our own opinions and thoughts.
You can tell she knows what she is talking about and that she is interested in the material.
Therefore, she teaches material in a enthusiastic manner that keeps my attention. She
adds in some humor so the class is not boring. When we express an opinion, she
challenges us by coming up with counterarguments that make us think. She is also willing
to help and just wants to see you work hard and succeed.
The instructor was very passionate about ethics which made the information exciting and
interesting to learn about. She would also pay attention to how the class was reacting to
the information, if we seemed like we were getting bored, she would talk about something
else or make the information seem more exciting. The instructor also used a variety of
teaching strategies from lectures, to videos or podcasts and class discussions. The
instructor was also receptive to student views, she always checked in with the students at
the beginning of class worked around our schedules so that we could learn all of the
necessary information.
Encouraged particiapation, did an exellent job of discussing difficult topics by lightening
them up when she could as well as making everyone comfortable.

Spring 2015 Amanda Hine was one of the best professors that I had this semester. She is engaging,
fun, knowledgeable, and patient. She has an exceptional way of drawing her students'
attention and I never felt bored or uninterested in her class. In addition, she is side-
neutral on all topics discussed. This made students feel that they are not being judged and
allowed them to speak up more in class. Overall, Amanda was amazing at teaching this
course. She was very confident in her teaching abilities and was willing to help me
anytime that I needed it; in addition, she was very prompt and helpful in regards to
responding to emails. She is the perfect person to teach this course (or any health care
ethics course).
Professor Hine is a great professor. She keeps the class engaged and interesting. She
uses different types of media such as podcasts to keep her students interested. She also
uses her student’s opinions and actually takes them into consideration.
Amanda did a great job at keeping the class engaged. She was always playing devil's
advocate & challenging us to think outside of the box & encouraging us to further
develop our moral thinking. She was energetic about the material & made it really
interesting to learn. She knew a lot about the topics we discussed & did a good job at
answering our questions.
I loved this class! It was so interesting and really changed my opinion on a lot of topics.
Fall 2014 Amanda Hine really creates an environment that is conductive to learning. She’s
enthusiastic about the subject matter and wants her students to be able to apply the
knowledge and the skills gained in tis class within their professions. I feel as if she
teaches towards life and the development of “life skills” as apposed to the test. Her goal
is to help her student’s learn and is more than willing to provide the necessary support
(honestly goes above and beyond the call of duty) to help her students.
She was really great at explaining things to us and ensuring that everyone understood the
material. She was constantly playing devil’s advocate which allowed us to see and
understand different sides on each issue we learned about. She was great at stimulating
discussion and encouraging participation in class.

…She is probably one of the best professors I have had during my four years at SLU.
Very passionate about the topics that we discussed in class, this really encouraged myself
and my peers to participate in class discussions. She was also very informed and
provided a lot of scholarly information that help contribute to class discussion. Very well
rounded instructor.
Spring 2014 Definitely the best professor I have ever been fortunate to study under.
Very knowledgeable and confident in her abilities. Understanding of the students. Very
interested in ethics and eager to teach
Very enthusiastic about what she was teaching. I found her to make the material more
interesting and she started good discussions.
Enthusiastic, got the students involved
Very unbiased which is necessary to get students to speak on both sides of an issue.
Knowledgeable.
She is very helpful and had a lot of resources available to help you succeed with the
assignment to keep you on top of everything and don’t fall behind. She also asks great
question to get us thinking and encourages class participation.
Very interactive with the class, breaks down complicated issues, and is available to her
students outside of class to offer suggestions on papers/ preparing for exams
Fall 2013 Professor Hine is very knowledgeable and open to various opinions. She encouraged
discussions and wanted to hear all points of view. I liked how she used various teaching
tools, like power points and documentaries.
This instructor was very good at picking at our minds and making us think from both
sides of an ethical argument instead of just assuming what we think morally is right is
ethically right as well.
Being able to see multiple sides of an ethical argument. Convincing and very
knowledgeable
She was very prepared, and very helpful and understanding.
Ms. Hine was able to keep our conversations focused without imposing her own opinion
into the matter. She thought of stimulating questions so we could better understand both
sides of a case.
She did a great job explaining both sides of the issue and then having students express
their opinions.
Amanda Hine knows a lot about the subject matter and is very engaging in lecture. She is
also helpful to students when they need it.
Great class and teacher
Ms. Hine was an excellent teacher. I wish I could take more classes from her.
Very willing to make sure everyone understood the material.
Very capable of developing an environment where students can express opinions,
thoughts and is knowledgeable of almost all ethical situations and the appropriate
options on how to deal with them. Can make engaging and thoughtful questions that
really challenge our thinking.
Amanda Hine is a wonderful teacher! She is very knowledgeable and gets students really
involved and interested. She responds to students needs and questions very fast. She
makes you really think and welcomes you to speak up. Awesome class. Enthusiastic and
very capable of leading meaningful discussions
She was passionate about the topic, and she encouraged a lot of discussion. Along with
the discussion, she loved playing "devil's advocate" in order to makes us think from the
opposing side.1

Due to their length and number, I have only included a short summary of reviews. If desired, I would be
happy to send all official review documents for each course.
