The colour of grains in maize is controlled by a pair of genes exhibiting recessive epistasis.
The epistatic gene for colour is expressed by the R allele which codes for coloured grains and
the r allele codes for white grains. The hypostatic gene is P for purple coloured grains and p
for red grains.

A pure breed purple-grained maize plant was crossed with a pure breed white-grained maize
plant. The resulting F1 generation maize plant all bear purple grains. The F1 were crossed to
obtain the F2 generation.

c) Complete the Punnett square below showing the genotypes and phenotypes of the F2
generation. [3]
