THESIS SYNOPSIS
Name of student: B.Deepak Sainath (130101601047)

Thesis topic: THE WINERY

Introduction:

A Winery is a building or property that produces wine, or a business involved in the


production of wine. Besides wine making equipment, larger wineries may also feature
warehouses, bottling lines, laboratories, and large expanses of tanks known as tank farms.

Background:

Viticulture in India has a long history dating back to the time of the Indus Valley Civilization
when grapevines were believed to have been introduced from Persia.Winemaking has
existed throughout most of India’s history but was particularly encouraged during the time of
the Portuguese and British colonization of the subcontinent.

Wine consumption has increased from a mere 1 million litres to more than 10 million litres in
2010.

Aim:

To spread awareness about viticulture and provide a weekend gateway for city dwellers.

Justification of the topic:

The project has a chance for me to explore a variety of areas, which include:

 Production facilities
 Hospitality
 Housing
 Exhibition centre
 Spa
Objectives:

 Terrior is the special characteristics that the geography, geology and climate of a
certain place bestow upon particular produce such as wine, coffee or tea.

Climate:

 For cultivation of quality grapes, the plant requires bi-urnal temperature which means
two drastic temperature differences in the same day. The days are to above 24
degrees where nights to be below 18 degrees.

Soil types:

 Black or red soil, but winemakers preferred as black soils tend to give the wine a
more acidic flavor.

Scope & Limitation:

 Consumption of wine in India has exponentially increased over the past few years,
primarily due to globilisation of the Indian market.
 Curiosity strikes the current generation.

Methodology:

 Evolution process and connectivity of spaces

Site Justification:

The concerns for choosing a site are;

 Located in the Theni district, is known for grape cultivation and in en route to
Thekkady from Tamilnadu.
 Provides employment oppurtunities to residents in and around the village.
 Located near thekkady helps to improve the possibilities of tourists.
 The natural setup aids in creating a suitable ambiance to setup a vineyard.
