 This is Steven Torres and welcome to my tutorial (SCENEMATICS)

 Now that we know to compute the derivatives of many common functions,

we can give a few examples of a problems of why the derivatives is such
useful tool
 Our lesson for today is all about application of derivatives
 As we all know that derivatives is the exact rate which are quantity changes
with respect to another. In geometrically, the derivatives is the slope of a
curve at the point of a curve. It is also called instantaneous “rate of change”
 TRIVIA do you that modern differentiation and derivatives are usually
credited to Isaac newton and Gottfried Leibniz

 PROBLEM 1:
Find the numbers whose sum is 640 and whose product is a large as possible
 ANSWER
It sort of a trick problem. If your numbers are x and y it will become x+y=640
based on the problem and if you transpose y it will become y= 640-x
The product can be written as a function alone: as P of x equals x times the
quantity 640-x and if we multiple. It will become 640x-x^2
In a quadric function we will use –b/2a as you can see -1 is a and 640 is b then
if we use the formula it would be -640/2(-1) and we divide by each other the
answer would be 320
If we multiply x and y (320) (320) the answer will be 102400
So the number are 320 and 320 and they are the largest product.
For example is 310 and 330 if we add them it would be 640 and if we multiply
it would be 102300 as we can see this is not the largest numbers. So the
answer would be 320

The next problem is

Find two numbers whose sum is 8,such that the sum of their squares is a
minimum.
ANSWER
If you read the problem carefully the equation would be x+y=8 or put another
^way, y=8-x the sum of the two numbers squares is x^2+y^2 but because of
the first equation, it can be expressed as x squared + (8-x)^2 which in x
Expand the binomial F of x equal x square = x square =
64- 16x and it would be 2x squared – 16x + 64
If we use the formula –b/2a as you can see 2 is a and -16 is b then if we use the
formula it would be 16/2(2) and we divide by each other the answer would be
4 and if we use the trial and error 2x squared – 16x + 64
Is 2(4)^2-16(4)+64= 32 then 4 and 4 is the minimum numbers

Lets go to Geometry
An example of a problem is
Find the dimension of a rectangle with a perimeter of 144 cm that will produce
the maximum area.
Let x and y be the sides of the rectangle perimeter 2x+2y=144
So 2y is equal to 144 – 2x
Y equal 144-2x over 2 because we will find y if we divide them it will be
Y is equal 72-x
We all know that area is length times width
So we use x as the length and y for the width it will look like this
A=xy
If we transmute it would become x times the quantity 72-x and the answer
would be 72x-x^2
We will use the first derivative of 72x-x^2 it will become 72- 2x
Then we will transmute and it will be 2x=72 now we will divide both by two
Because we will removed the x. the answer will be 36
To find the y we will the use the formula of y that is 72-x and if we transmute it
would be 72-36 =36 so the coordinates/slope is (32,32)

Another problem in terms of geometry

What is the maximum area of a rectangle that has side along the positive x-axis
and y-axis and lies below the line 3x+2y=1

Answer
Let p(x,y) 3x+2y=1
Y=(1-3x)/2 or ½ - (3/2)x

The area is xy if we transmute it

X(1/2-(3/2)x) = (1/2)x- (3/2)x^2
D(area)/dx= ½-3x
½-3x=0 we will divide both side with 3 to find the x o the answer will be 1/6
Y=1/2-(3/2)(1/6)=1/4 and coordinates will be (1/6,1/4)
The maximum area = xy then (1/6)(1/4) = 1/24 squares units
Revenue Profit
If 20,000 people will watch a concert at an admission price of 100 pesos each,
and if for every 50 centavos added to the prices, 500 fewer people will attend,
determine the admission price that will give the maximum revenue.

A buffet restaurant charges 200 pesos per person for a group of 60. But for
each person in excess of 60, the charge for every person reduced by 2 pesos.
What number of persons in a group leads to maximum revenue for the
restaurant?
MISCELLANEOUS PROBLEMS:

A truck is 300 km due east of a car and is traveling west at the constant speed
of 30 kph. Meanwhile, the car is going north at the constant speed of 60 kph.
At what time will the car and the truck be closest to each other?(hint: you will
simplify the calculation if you minimize the square of the distance between the
car and the truck rather than the distance itself.)

A man on an island 16km north of a straight shoreline must reach a point 30

km east of the closest point on the shore to the island. If he can row at a speed
of 3 kph and jog at a speed of 5kph, where should he land on the shore in
order to reach his destination as soon as possible?
