Prerequisites 0
Knowledge of the system and PC knowledge (MS Windows) are required to perform the
work steps.
The SW installation described below is valid only for collimators with Material Numbers 100
92 602 - 100 92 605 and 100 92 607 - 100 92 608.
NOTE The SW for collimators with Material Numbers 100 92 606, 100
92 609, 100 92 614, 100 92 615 and 100 92 618 is downloaded
using the system CD/DVD. The SW download described
below is not valid for these collimators.
Download
• Download the allowed SW (e.g. "10092711_PBL_II_VC00H.exe") for the collimator
(observe the System Compatibility List) from the MED CS Intranet.
• Go to “http://cs.med.siemens.de/cms/en/home/default.asp” and follow the path < For
Service > < Product Information > < AX Systems > < Radiography > < Direct Tech-
nique > < Software >. Left-click on the Radiography - Software Update Page page
on the file that is to be downloaded, e.g. "10092711_PBL_II_VC00H.exe". Please
observe the designations in the SW file: OT means Over Table. Use this SW for collima-
tors that are installed on a tube unit above the table and that can be operated manually
by the user. UT means Under Table. Use this SW for collimators that are installed on a
tube unit below the table and that cannot be operated manually by the user.
• Save the file on the d:\temp hard disk of your Service PC; after completing the save rou-
tine, close the window.
• Check the file with a standard anti-virus program.
NOTE When the files have been extracted on the CD/diskette, these
files may not be copied to another CD/diskette for distribu-
tion (i.e., no copies from one CD to another, because it can-
not be verified that the SW is virus-free).
SW Installation 0
Fig. 1:
To update the collimator SW using the download via the serial interface, open the front door
on the collimator. Please open or close the door with power switched off to avoid short cir-
cuits.
Finally, the new SW version for the collimator must be entered into the Compatibility List
attached to the system.
Removal 0
5. Evenly loosen the 3 Allen screws on the top edge of the collimator and remove the colli-
mator (1/Fig. 3 / p. 11).
When doing this, make absolutely sure to hold the collimator and to secure it against
damage!
Installation 0
Fig. 4: Collimator
NOTE Carefully place the collimator on the tube unit. The collimator
plates are extremely sensitive and can be damaged very eas-
ily.
1. Place the collimator on the tube unit flange and turn in the three screws, but do not
tighten them. Then tighten one of the screws (1/Fig. 5 / p. 12) so that the collimator can
just no longer be turned.
2. Hook the spring balance onto the lever arm (2/Fig. 5 / p. 12).
4. Then tighten the second so that the collimator can just no longer be turned. Loosen the
screw again so that the collimator can be turned when a force of 40 - 50 N is applied to
the spring balance.
5. Then tighten the third screw so that the collimator can just no longer be turned. Loosen
the screw again so that the collimator can be turned when a force of 60 - 70 N is applied
to the spring balance.
6. Connect the collimator. Close the cover panels.
NOTE Carefully place the collimator on the tube unit. The collimator
plates are extremely sensitive and can be damaged very eas-
ily.
1. Place the collimator on the tube unit flange and turn in the three screws, but do not
tighten them. Then tighten one of the screws so that the collimator can just no longer be
turned.
2. Loosen the screw again one half turn.
3. Repeat the procedure on another screw.
4. Tighten the third screw so that the collimator can just no longer be turned.
5. Tighten the first and second screw again one half turn (maximum admissible torque: 5
Nm).
6. Connect the collimator. Close the cover panels.
Depending on the system, system status and collimator model, it is possible that adjust-
ments are still required.
• Perform the system-specific downloads, IQAP or function checks, e.g. the CAN down-
load, light field-radiation field check or the collimator center check. The extent and type
of checks can be found in the system-specific documents.
• Perform function tests per the system-specific documents.
• Use the packaging from the collimator that was shipped as the return packaging for the
replaced collimator.
• If a questionnaire is included along with the new collimator, it must be filled out (reason
for failure and replacement of the collimator) and should accompany the replaced colli-
mator.
• The replaced collimator must be secured in the packaging in the same way as the colli-
mator that was shipped.
• Install the transport safety devices in the replaced collimator in the same way as in the
shipped collimator (see the red label on the collimator).
NOTICE The collimators are repair parts for which a credit is issued
when they are returned!
If there is mechanical damage to the collimator as a result of
incorrect packaging or missing transport safety devices, no
return credit will be issued!
¹ The replaced collimators must be properly packaged
and the transport safety devices must be installed!
• Loosen (one turn) the two screws (1/Fig. 7 / p. 16) on the heat shield.
• Insert the heat shield until it stops and tighten the two screws.
• Install the lamp cover.
8. Connect the cables to the new LED module in the following sequence:
a) LED power supply (3/Fig. 11 / p. 18). Caution! Pay attention to correct poling!
b) LED temperature sensor cable (2/Fig. 11 / p. 18). Carefully plug it in to prevent
damage!
c) Fan power supply (1/Fig. 11 / p. 18).
Removal 0
7. Disconnect the power supply from the board in the front door and pull out the cable.
Carefully bend the cable clips up.
Installation 0
1. Insert the new laser module and slightly tighten the clamp screws.
2. Route the power supply cable to the board in the front door, connect it, and secure the
cable with the cable clips.
3. Install the Plexiglas sheet with the crosshairs and align it precisely using the markings.
When finished, remove the markings.
The collimator has an S3 DIP switch on the D21 board and/or the D204 board (if config-
ured), which is used to set the CAN transfer rate.
Adjust the focus-near plates only if this is necessary (e.g. the plates were bent after remov-
ing the protective caps).
An adjustment gauge is included in the shipment to adjust the collimator focus-near plates.
The adjustment gauge is centered by the collimator flange.
The focus-near plates for height and width collimation may just touch the nib on the adjust-
ment gauge or have spacing of max. 1 mm when the collimator is completely closed.
If the plates are out of adjustment, readjust them by carefully bending the support plates.
The lead plates and the guide pins may not be damaged.
If coincidence of the light field to the radiation field is not adequate (e.g. tolerance of the
focal spots), centering of the light field can be performed using 2 Allen screws on the top
of the collimator.
• Adjustment in the Y direction (width): If the screw is turned clockwise (3/Fig. 18 / p. 26),
the light field moves back and vice versa. The adjustment path in this direction is
approx. 3 times greater in this direction than in the X direction.
The max. adjustment path is approx. ± 5 mm at an SID of 115 cm.
The adjustment screws may be turned until resistance of the compression springs can be
felt. The screws may not be loose.
After adjusting the light field, if needed, the crosshair window can be readjusted by loosen-
ing the 4 mounting screws on the mounting frame to adjust the line laser.
Please note that the adjustment can have an effect on the system adjustments and,
if necessary, they must be repeated.
To change the light field size, first remove the lamp cover (Fig. 6 / p. 15) and then the heat
shield (Fig. 7 / p. 16).
Use a 5.5 mm Allen wrench to first loosen the clamping screw (1/Fig. 19 / p. 27).
To increase the light field, turn the screw clockwise (2/Fig. 19 / p. 27); to make it smaller,
turn the screw counterclockwise.
Then retighten the clamping screw (1/Fig. 19 / p. 27).
The collimator crosshair can be readjusted after loosening the 4 mounting screws on the
mounting frame (Fig. 21 / p. 29).
To adjust the stop position of the rotation flange, loosen the clamping screw
(1/Fig. 24 / p. 32) (1.5 mm Allen screw).
The parallelism of the radiation field can be adjusted using the eccentric stud
(2/Fig. 24 / p. 32).
Then retighten the clamping screw (1/Fig. 24 / p. 32).
Adjustment of the 0 stop switch for the rotation flange can be required for tolerance reasons
related to the tube unit flange.
To get to the stop switch, the left cover panel on the collimator must be removed.
The switch point of the stop switch (1/Fig. 25 / p. 33) can be adjusted with a small screw-
driver.
When collimator rotation is in the stopped position, the switch must be pressed.
