To ensure safe operation−
Always make a pre-operation inspection (page 19 ) before you start
the engine. You may prevent an accident or equipment damage.
Place the generator at least 1 m (3 ft) away from buildings or other
equipment during operation.
Operate the generator on a level surface.
If the generator is tilted, fuel spillage may result.
Exhaust gas contains poisonous carbon monoxide.
Never run the generator in an enclosed area.
Be sure to provide adequate ventilation.
Know how to stop the generator quickly and understand operation
of all the controls. Never permit anyone to operate the generator
without proper instructions.
Keep children and pets away from the generator when it is in
operation.
Keep away from rotating parts while the generator is running.
The generator is a potential source of electrical shocks when
misused; do not operate with wet hands.
Do not operate the generator in rain or snow and do not let it get
wet.
Diesel fuel is extremely flammable and explosive under certain
conditions.
Refuel in a well ventilated area with the engine stopped.
Connections for standby power to a building’s electrical system
must be made by a qualified electrician and must comply with all
applicable laws and electrical codes. Improper connections can
allow electrical current from the generator to back feed into the
utility lines. Such back feed may electrocute utility company
workers or others who contact the lines during a power outage,
and when utility power is restored, the generator may explode,
burn, or cause fires in the building’s electrical system.

Warning Lamps
Lights when the engine oil level is low or engine lubrication system is
faulty, and the engine automatically stops.
If this occurs;
Check the engine oil level, and add recommended oil if level is low
(see page 20 ).
See your authorized Honda dealer if the oil pressure warning lamp
comes on even though the engine oil is sufficient.
To restart the engine, set the engine switch to OFF once and start
according to the starting procedure.
Engine speed will decrease without load when the fuel tank become
empty. That causes oil pressure remaining low and the oil pressure
warning lamp may light. Refill the fuel tank.

Water Temperature Warning Lamp
If this occurs;
Check the coolant level, and add coolant if level is low (see page 23 ).
Check the cooling air intake openings and the radiator for clogged or
overload occurred when the warning lamp lights and the engine
stops.
To restart the engine, set the engine switch to OFF once and start
according to the starting procedure.
The water temperature warning lamp may not function if the coolant
in the radiator is insufficient.
The general warning lamp lights and engine will stop if generator
problem or overloading has occurred. Stop the engine immediately
and disconnect the appliance, and determine whether the problem is
due to an generator problem, or generator overloading.
If the warning lamp lights and engine stops;
1. Turn off the AC circuit breaker OFF.
2. Restart the engine.
3. Check the generator voltage at the voltmeter.
If the voltage is correct, check the appliance for good condition.
If the voltage is incorrect, see your authorized Honda dealer.

5. PRE-OPERATION CHECKS
Check the generator on a firm, level surface with the engine stopped.
Be sure to block the wheel with the two wheel stoppers provided.
To open
1. Remove the flange bolt from the bottom of the maintenance lid.
2. Align the maintenance lid knob OPEN and pull up the lid.
3. Pull the stopper from the holder and set the stopper to the hook to
hold the lid.
To close
1. Lift the maintenance lid slightly to unhook the stopper.
2. Set the stopper in the holder on the maintenance lid and gently
lower the lid.
3. Align the maintenance lid knob with CLOSE and fix the lid.
Keep the maintenance lid closed while operating the generator, or the
cooling efficiency is reduced, resulting in a damaged generator.

According to season and ambient temperature, a different grade of
diesel fuel should be used. The fuel might freeze and prevent the
engine from starting if summer fuel is used in winter. If winter fuel is
used in summer, it could result in a lack of power. Be sure to use the
proper grade of diesel fuel which complies with the ambient
temperature.
Refill the fuel frequently, especially in winter. Water could
accumulate if there is much air in the fuel tank. We recommend that
you refill after each use of the generator.
Air bleeding (Restart of the engine after the fuel has run out)
Light blue exhaust gas is seen while bleeding air. Keep the engine
running, and the exhaust smoke color leans and the engine speed
stabilizes after the air bleeding.

RESERVE TANK
MAX (UPPER LEVEL)
Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. The coolant
is under pressure and severe scalding could result.
Wait until the engine is cool, then turn the radiator cap
counterclockwise until stops. DO NOT PRESS DOWN WHILE
TURNING THE CAP. After any remaining pressure has been relieved,
remove the cap by pressing down and again turning it
counterclockwise. Add enough coolant to fill the radiator, and
reinstall the cap. Be sure to tighten it securely. Fill the reserve tank
up to the MAX mark with the engine cold.

Limit operation requiring maximum power (see page 50 ) to 30
minutes.
For continuous operation, do not exceed the rated power (see page
50 ).
In either case, the total wattage of all appliances connected must be
considered.
Most appliance motors require more than their rated wattage for
startup.
Do not exceed the current limit specified for any one receptacle.
Do not connect the generator to a household circuit. This could
cause damage to the generator or to electrical appliances in the
house.
When an extension cable is required, be sure to use a tough rubber
sheathed flexible cable (IEC 245 or equivalent).
Limit length of extension cables; 60 m for cables of 1.5 mm and 100
m for cables of 2.5 mm . Long extension cables will lower usable
power due to resistance in the extension cable.
Keep the generator away from other electric cables or wires such as
commercial power supply lines.
33
Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine
AC Applications
Make sure all appliances are in good working order before connecting
them to the generator. If an appliance begins to operate abnormally,
becomes sluggish, or stops suddenly, turn it off immediately.
Disconnect the appliance, and determine whether the problem is due
to an appliance problem, or generator overloading.
Most appliance and power tool motors require more than the rated
operating current for start-up. To match appliance power needs to
generator capability, allow enough generator power reserve to
accommodate motor start-up requirements.
An overload will trip (switch off) the circuit breaker. If this happens,
reduce the electrical load on the circuit. Wait a few minutes before
resetting the circuit breaker.
Operation:
1. Start the engine. Makes sure the pilot lamp comes on (Equipped
type only).
2. Make sure that the voltmeter indicates the specified voltage. If not
adjust with the voltage adjustment knob (Equipped type only).
Although voltage adjustment is usually not required, fine
adjustments may be made by turning the voltage adjustment knob.
Use the generator at the specified voltage.

The engine becomes very hot during operation and remains hot for a
while after stopping. Allow the engine to cool before transporting or
storing indoors.
Transporting
When transporting the generator, turn the engine switch OFF and
keep the generator level to prevent fuel spillage. Fuel vapor or
spilled fuel may ignite.
Contact with a hot engine or exhaust system can cause serious
burns or fires. Let the engine cool before transporting or shorting
