Briefly (1 or2 sentences) describe the posiion's organizational seting and major functions. In the California Department of
Education (CDE), under the administrative direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Chief
Deputy Superintendent, the Deputy Superintendent for Finance, Technology and Administration Branch (FTAB) is
responsible for providing leadership to CDE staff and local educational agencies (LEAs) in the areas of budgetary
and accounting services for 2 major portion of the state budget, personnel services to CDE staff, the
apportionment of state and federal resources to LEAs, the assistance to LEAS for all business aspects of schools,
including oversight of bankrupt districts, ensuring CDE employees optimal IT and Web services and state of the
art Web presence, and to administer the five CDE divisions in the branch: Fiscal and Administrative Services,
Personnel Services, Schoo! Fiscal Services, Technology Services, and Data Management.

Duties
30 ‘Supervises and coordinates the ongoing work of the Finance, Technology and Administration Branch
Division Directors and staff, ie., the Fiscal and Administrative Services Division, the Personnel
Services Division, the School Fiscal Services Division, Technology Services Division, and the Data
Management Division
20 Provides vision, leadership, technical assistance, and direction to the development and
implementation of statewide strategies for fiscal and business aspects of California LEAs, including
budget oversight and data systems development, and oversight of state administered districts,
10 ‘Supports the State Board of Education (SBE) and the State Superintendent of Public Instruction with
particular emphasis on department and local schoo! fiscal and business issues, school district and
territory transfers, and boundary changes. Provides fiscal advice to the SBE on waivers and
regulations.
10 Serves as a member of the State Superintendent of Public Instructions Executive Cabinet;
participates in the development and approval of statewide and departmental policies and practices.
Acts as a department representative to or board member of external organizations such as Fiscal
Crisis and Management Assistance Team, California County Superintendents Educational Services
Association, Business and Administration Steering Committee, and Education Audit Appeals Panel
Represents the State Superintendent of Public Instruction as required; handles public speaking
engagements as necessary throughout the State.
