Behavior Lesson Plan:  Cool Tool 

Universal Expectation​ : Playground 
Skill/Setting​
:  Playground Grade Level:​
 K­6th grade 
Goals/Expectations: 

Students will be able to play in a manner that is safe and fun for all.
Students will learn to play and socialize with others.

Students will learn to be respectful of others by using responsible behavior.
  
Procedure: 
Introduce Skill​
: Teacher describes skill and students share examples and nonexamples.
Model​ : Teacher demonstrates all behaviors described (positive and negative).
Practice​: Teacher and students practice ​only positive behaviors​
.
Acknowledge​ : Teacher provides acknowledgement and feedback to student when behavior is
demonstrated.
Re-teach​ : Re-teach following breaks from school and/or as data shows it’s needed.  
  
Rules 
● Follow staff directions
● Use kind and positive language
● Include others
● Take turns, and wait patiently
● Use up to voice level 4
● Use equipment responsibly
● Return equipment
● Ask permission to go inside
● Stay in designated area (diagonal from culvert to third pole on hill fence/not west of
the building for safety purposes)

Teaching Examples 
1. When you want to play on equipment with other children, be mindful of their safety
and respectful to the environment. Remind yourself to think about how you would
like others to treat you.
2. You are playing catch with a friend and they run into the swings area to catch the ball.
You politely remind your friend that we need to play in the designated areas.
3. When the whistle blows and you want to make one more play, you remember to end
the activity, to clean up the equipment, and quickly use line basics.
4. Watch videoes (one for each piece of equipment & different activities).
 
 
 
Positive Examples to include in teaching video. 
1. Tornado­sit on orange bottom or black rope.  Two children across from each other at a 
time.  Older students after the youngers go in. 
2. Spider webs 
3. Basketball hoops 
4. Spinning ball­2­3 small children with legs in.  One student pushes from standing across 
from the pole and do not run around with the ball so don’t clothes line self :­(   
5. Doorway near Kindergarten/first grade rooms off limits 
6. Before school/breakfast recess stay in wood chip/blacktop area 
7. Swings­pushing only (no under ducks), swinging only (no climbing up poles), no running 
the gauntlet 
8. Slide­walking only, go up ladders/steps only. 
9. Tag on ground only 
10. What if… balls go across road or over fence 
11. Consequences (classroom/peer pressure from whole group or individual­let teachers 
know if their student is being late) for wasting time around the corner needing to be 
rounded up when whistle blows 
12. Bathroom and injury procedures/permission to go in
