I have been using a glucometer in India for the past 10 years.

I have used branded meters earlier like Accucheck, etc. I realised that I was
paying approx 20/- per strip using these meters. For someone who tests 3�4 times a
day, this was a big expense.

I now use the Ozocheck glucometer. The cost per strip comes to around 12/- for me
as I buy in bulk. You can find these strips online - just do a search and you will
find many online vendors.

The pain caused while testing is mostly dependent on the lancet used. If you use a
thin lancet there is not much pain. In fact, lancets are interchangeable - you can
use any lancet with any glucometer.

Ozocheck requires very less blood. I cannot compare with other meters - but,
usually when you prick with a lancet you get enough blood. I wouldn�t go by
marketing material that touts the low volume of blood that is required.

Finally, accuracy of the glucometer reading. No glucometer reading is accurate -

read my answer on why glucometer readings are not accurate. In fact, all glucometer
readings differ from a lab test. I use the readings as an approximation - so,
100mgdL could mean 115mgdL. My goal is to maintain a good HbA1c - and the
glucometer gives me enough information for this.

Based on this, my criterion for selecting a glucometer is based purely on cost per
strip. The ozocheck meter was the cheapest I could find 10 years ago. I am happy
with the glucometer.

Came across this new glucometer in the market, it goes by the name Alere G1. Both
my parents are diabetic and so far was using just one glucometer to monitor their
blood sugar level. Decided to get another Alere G1, in order to keep a better
track.

Till now Alere G1 has turned out to be quite reliable and accurate. Priced at Rs
611 on Snapdeal, seems to be the most cost effective glucometer available online.

I am currently using Dr.Morepen BG-03.

It is comparatively cheaper then other brands like one touch and all . 50 strips
are available at rs.550. It doesn't compromise on results. I have compared my
results at lab and my results with this meter.

i would prefer Onetouch simple select glucometer by johnson & johnson.
if you purchase it from online amazon store it costs around 670 INR which is pretty
low compared to other glucometers ( almost half).
this glucometer has no complicated memory functions and no buttons so easy for
newbies.
it stores only 1 last sugar reading.
lancets are pretty cheap costs around 60-80INR / 100 pieces.
strips costs around 15 inr which is slightly expensive but you purchase it in bulk
or from wholsale dealer then costs comes down to 9-10 INR per strip.
