August was Challenging, Busy, Interesting
Challenging
We began our month in the
midst of a record setting heat
wave. Temperatures were
reaching over 100F many days.
Because of an extreme drought
in Russia many forest fires
broke out blanketing huge
areas of the country in heavy
smoke. Between the smoke
and extreme heat life in Nizhny
Novgorod was difficult. We
have no air conditioning, and
despite the high temperatures
we were advised to keep our
windows closed because of the
smoke. The temperatures in
our apartment reached well
over 100F. We tried covering
our open windows with wet
sheets but the sheets would dry
in less than 30 minutes.

After almost three weeks of this
we decided we needed to find
somewhere to go to escape the
smoke as it was both
uncomfortable and dangerous
to breathe. Every train ticket
going out of the city had been
sold, but we finally found 2
tickets by plane to the city of
Yekaterinburg, nearly 1000
miles east. We made a
decision to buy the tickets and
go east for a few weeks.

The Ural Mountain area is
home to several Cornerstone
and Foursquare churches so
we knew we would have open
doors of ministry. Upon arrival
in Yekaterinburg we found that
we had invitations to speak in
four cities. These invitations led
to several other open doors.
We spent the next 20 days
traveling from city to city
at rehab centers, and meeting
new friends.
 unusual as Russian Baptists typically do not
cooperate with Charismatic/Pentecostal
believers.

During this time we spoke in six churches,

seven rehabilitation centers, attended a
wedding, spent a day swimming at a hot
springs, taught marriage seminars in three
churches, prayed for dozens of people and saw
Mike preaching near Yekaterinberg
a total of ten people respond to the preaching
and teaching with a prayer of repentance.

We have plans for a return visit to the Urals in

February. We have invitations to come and
teach marriage seminars in several churches
including the Foursquare church in Korkino,
one of several Foursquare affiliated churches in
the Ural mountain area.
