An Imperial Legend of Eminence

Leo Club of University of Moratuwa

Chat with a LEO
He is a dear friend of all the Leos of 306 A2 who is filled with so many amazing talents
and qualities. This humble person is always famous for his dedication and commitment towards
his works. He always wants to do his best and strive for the best in all the activities he does.
But this journey of his never aimed for titles or awards. This is his secret weapon behind his
success. He is a true Leo from his heart who serve the humanity at his best.
We are proud to say that this amazing personality is a proud product of UoM Leos and
still one of the shadows behind us who always guides us towards the excellence.
He is none other than the District Contest Director of Leo District 306 A2 and former
Club Secretary of UoM Leos, Leo Lion Kasun Himala Geeganage.
We hope that this would lighten up you and help you to awake the true Leo within you.

Tell us about yourself (family background and etc.)

Well, as you might already know I’m

a Civil Engineer by profession and currently
serving as the District Contest Director and
Chief Administration Coordinator of Leo
District 306 A2 and the Council Officer of
Leo Multiple District 306. My father is a
businessman and mother is a housewife. And
I am the only child in my family. Matara is
my hometown and I have studied from Rahula
College, Matara from Grade 1 to Advanced
Levels.

How and when did your Leo

career start?
I started my Leo career by joining the Leo Club
of University of Moratuwa in the year 2011
with the guidance of my fellow batch mates
Leo Ajith, Leo Kalana etc. As I remember
the first project I participated was “Scouting
Workshop for Leos” held on 2011-12-13.
During those times I was able to participate
only in few projects since I had to attend the
2
classes on the weekends as well. Beach Cleanup, “Balloth ekka Ba” Stage Drama, first ever
Mahesh Abeywickrama Memorial Championship were some of the projects I have participated
in as a prospect. Then I got inducted at the Leo Mass Induction held on 27th October 2012
under the club presidency of Leo Lion Chathuranga Gunasekara and district presidency of
PDP Lion Isuru Senadheera.

How was your journey as a Leo so far?

A bit of luck though, after about seven months from the induction I had gotten a phone call
from CS ayya asking to take the responsibility of the club secretary. It was totally unexpected
at that time as I had a very little knowledge about Leoism. However, after some discussions,
I took the responsibility. Later I got to know that I got that invitation since my fellow batch
mate was reluctant to take it. But finally, I have managed to become the Most Outstanding
Club Secretary of Sri Lanka in that year. So I would like to thank all of them for giving me that
opportunity.
Then the second one; one of my very first youth camp teammates Leo Sean came to
me in the A2 Sports Day 2015 and asked me to be ready for District Secretary responsibility.
Even though being busy with my profession, I was keen to accept the challenge. I hope I have
fulfilled the responsibility to my level best.
I have never followed the titles, but they recognized something within me and whenever
they chose me for a duty, I was committed towards it.

What are the best projects you’ve joined so far?

Every single project organized by Leos is important and each has different values from
each other. But we always remember where we put a smile on someone’s face. Therefore, I
can remember every single service project we have done for children, youth, elders, differently
abled persons etc. Jeewana Yathra ‘16 held at Kabithigollawa is my latest memory where those
innocent little kids were keen to adore us even on our way to vehicles.

What are the most unforgettable memories in your Leo career?

My very first Leo Project, all 5 Leo Youth Camps I have participated and finally the
moment I became the Best Club Secretary of Sri Lanka.

What are your future goals as a Leo?

To be honest, I don’t have any goals to win titles. The only goal I have is to serve the
society, support young blood to shine and uplift the Leo movement.

What is the message you would like to give for all the Leos
around Sri Lanka?
Leoism is a place where it prepares you to be great leaders and talented individuals. The
qualities you are grabbing from Leoism will help you in your future careers and your personal
lives. After all, you could look back someday and could immensely be happy and proud of this
volunteering service that you do today.
But whatever you do, do it with a true spirit of Leoism, with your full heart expecting
nothing in return. Whatever you deserve will come in your way. Be responsible and keep
up the unity among fellow Leos. Finally, just obey the Leo pledge, and work towards our
country’s peace and prosperity in a spirit of tolerance and love.

What is your special message for the Leos of UoM?

All the above applies to them. In addition, continue all the good work and create new
opportunities to serve the people in need while polishing up your leadership skills. It is a one
way that we can pay back the debt, which the general public invested in us.
For the young blood, this is kind of a place where you can showcase your talents, try
up new ideas which you can’t do alone, be associated with different kind of friends etc. At the
end of the day all of you will become graduates but the exposure you get from Leoism will
definitely take you up in your career. Therefore, grab the opportunity which waits for you.

When it is all over, how would you like to be remembered?

It’s up to you I guess :)

What should I do with my life?
We have this question in our heads revolving back in time to time. Without finding
an answer we skip the same question, but it emerge again at times when we begin to think
about life. We spend day by day engaging in the usual careers bound around us. Some
may study, some may be employed and some will do nothing with their lives. Among all
the people around the world there are few who struggle to find the answer for the question
without knowing that the answer is already within them.

Life is not meant to be lived alone. We all have some relationships which are closer
to us. They may be relatives, friends or friends of friends. No matter who they are; we
arrange meetings, get calls and make conversations with them without expecting anything.
In return unexpectedly you will be able to learn things which you never heard of by listening
to others. The motivations, dreams and hopes of the people you talk with will be some sort
of a guidance for you to travel in your life path.

Education is simply has become just a doing to pass the examinations. Learning by
heart and writing them on a sheet of paper for evaluation will not be sufficient for a proper
learning. Ideas written on a paper will always sound good but in practical situation they will
not worth that much. You have to get use to learn through experiences. For that you have
to get started. No matter what it is but starting and engaging in something will always bless
you with new experiences. The ups and downs you go through while trying will further
clarify the way you have to go.

12
Getting started is easier when you know how the successful people found their success
phases. Learning from them, reading their biographies before going to bed will help you to
wake up in the next morning with positive thoughts. They will guide you towards the path
of success. You have to be prepared for a long journey after getting started. The journey
may not end at your imagined destination. The decisions you have to take will change along
the way. They may not be specific at the beginning and we have to be prepared for any
storms on the way.

There may be things which you never thought to do in life because of many reasons.
You have to get rid of the fear within you to step on to a thing which you never tried. The
comfort zone you are in will always not be the safe zone which you wanted. Sometimes you
may never know what you are meant to do without having a try on it, and sometimes you
will be able to rule the particular thing which you tried new.

You must never be worried about failing. Failing leads to learning and growing. No
matter how many times you fail one day you will rise up with the courage and dedication
within you. If you are certain of what you are engaged in, you will win one day.

Do not worry about having the answers to every question you have. Feel better
knowing a little about what you do in life. Do what you have to do and take clear steps
ahead. Do not stress yourselves bothering about the future. The answers to every question
will come to you when you are least expecting it and it will be way better and clearer than
you imagined.

My World, My Mother
I see you with my closed eyes
Walking through the frozen skies
All the clouds and all the stars
Gather along in the deep in sight…

Hold my hand and never let go

My heart will die if you ever do so
Tears can’t wash my pain away
Years won’t be enough to live this way…

Sun will rise and flowers will bloom

Fears will melt I’m safe and warm
I’m in this world where I belong
Your embrace is which keeps my soul…
