Enclosed, please find a copy of the business plan for Donnie’s GrubHub, which is a
restaurant in Chambersburg Pennsylvania. The purpose of my restaurant is to serve our
customers by providing great food and exceptional service. We believe that our
customers should be able to eat in a high-end environment to fully experience our food.
To successfully launch my restaurant, I plan to put up $100,000 of my own capital. We
would also require additional financing of $50,000. Included in my financial statements,
you will find that I plan to pay off the loan within five years.

Executive Summary

Donnie’s GrubHub is opening because I believe that people should be able to be

served great food with exceptional service. The food and restaurant industry is an

essential part of American culture and with the use of technology I can tap into it like no

one ever has before.

The first aspect of my business is the restaurant and menu design. I will have a

broad menu that includes a large variety of foods that are created at my restaurant by me

and professional chefs. These dishes will be served to satisfy all of our customer’s

cravings. Included on the menu are handcrafted drinks that are very popular among

millennials which is our target demographic. We believe that families and millennials

would be willing to try out a new local restaurant rather than a chain. The restaurant

design is complex because there are different sections based on who you're with. We can

support up to 100 people in the restaurant because of the large dining area.

Another aspect of my business is drone delivery. We believe that delivery

shouldn’t take hours for food to get to your doorstep. Through drone delivery we would

be able to deliver your food in half the time as normal delivery which I think is

noteworthy. I have included a picture of what the drone would look like. This aspect of

my business can’t be operational until laws are passed that permit drones to be flown at

night and out of sight of the flyer. The purpose of including this information is to be

prepared for the change in commercial drone laws that would make this aspect of my

business operational.

My business would be a sole proprietorship. I would have many responsibilities

that have to do with operations and management. My employees would be trained well

and informed about all events going on in my restaurant. They are the faces of my

business and will need to be leaders that take pride in their work.

The first step in creating my business is setting up a website to organize my

business so consumers can easily access the details of Donnie’s GrubHub. Once this

phase is completed I will design my restaurant and menu. When I get enough customers

to make a profit I will open up a new restaurant.

History and Background

I've always wanted to be the owner of my own restaurant because it deals with

expertise in the business and food industries. I am planning on majoring in business

management, eventually getting a master’s degree. This knowledge should help me to

open and operate my restaurant. I have many leadership skills that qualify me for the job

of owning and operating a business.

Goals and Objectives

The first short term goal I have is to create a menu for my restaurant. Since

Donnie’s GrubHub is a bar and grille I would need main foods like burgers, sandwiches,

salads, and steaks but also a list of drinks served at the bar. Another short term goal for

me would be to create a website that looks good and runs smoothly. The website needs to

include the menu, daily deals, locations, and a contact form.

A long term goal would be to acquire at least 50,000 monthly customers by the

fifth year in operation. To do this I would need to open a minimum of three more

restaurants. Also, I want to have a profit of at least 30,000 a month for all restaurants.

Also, I would like to incorporate drones into the delivery process once state and federal

laws allow it. This aspect of my business could take between months and years to become

fully operational but when the time comes I will be ready.

Products and Services

Donnie’s GrubHub has a goal to serve our customers by providing great food and

exceptional service. My restaurant appeals to many, diverse groups of people because of

the building design of my restaurant and the menu. Another part of my restaurant is food

delivery by drone. We will charge a delivery fee similar to normal car fees. The drone

could deliver up to 50% faster than a normal delivery which intrigues customers who

don’t typically dine in. My business will be located in a rural and eventually sub-urban

area because there typically aren’t many restaurants in those areas. There are many

business people and families around the area that will travel near Donnie’s GrubHub.

Form of Ownership

Donnie’s GrubHub would function as a sole proprietorship. I would be in charge

of the business as a whole; including business deals, advertising, hiring, menu

development, and customer service issues. Even though I would be the only owner, I

would converse with all of my employees about how the restaurant is to be run and

anything they can improve upon. My employees would understand that we are in the

people business and all that matters is the customer’s mood while dining in at my

restaurant.

Management and Staffing

Management is very important in my restaurant because those employees are the

leaders of my company who teach other employees the same values I taught them.

Managers would be selected by three important abilities. The first is personality which is

determined by references on their resume and an interview. The second is experience in

the restaurant industry which can be found in their job history. The third is leadership

skills after taking a test given by me. I would need at least seven servers to deliver food

to customers and take their orders. Next, I would need two dishwashers that wash dishes

and one bus boy to retrieve those dishes. Also, two hosts will be needed to seat customers

in a timely fashion. A chef is important so that they can create delicious foods to put on

the menu and 4 line cooks to cook those menu items. Lastly, one bartender would create,

mix, and pour drinks.

Marketing

My target demographic will be families and millennials. Studies show that these

groups of people are more willing to try something new than other groups or generations

of people. I will be conducting a survey that determines what people like to eat when they

go out to a restaurant. This should help me decide whether to add or take off items on my

menu. The size of the restaurant industry is huge and has much opportunity to continue

growth. A barrier to enter this industry is high capital costs and brand recognition. I will

overcome these barriers by raising money, taking out a loan, and presenting a strong

marketing plan through social media and word of mouth. I plan on spending a 10% of

profit on specific marketing in Chambersburg directed at millennials. I believe that there

will be some change to the industry in the near future. The implementation of technology

in restaurants would be the only significant change to the industry. My competitive

advantage would be the use of drones for delivery of freshly cooked food right to your

doorstep.
