Class  paying attention to using spacing between words,
December 18th-
December 20th 2017
Dear Parents,
This week in reading we will work on segmenting letter sounds
in words, rhymes substituting letter sounds, adding phonemes,
deleting phonemes, and language awareness with sentences. We will
Summarize (A good way to understand a story is to think about the
important key events and the order in which they happen. We can
retell the story from beginning to end.) Make Inferences
(Sometimes we must figure out things in the story ourselves.
Paying attention to the important events gives us clues about the
story.) Informational Text: Expository (text that explains or gives
information; often contains photographs)
This week in Writer’s Workshop we will make cards. We will
be focusing on using spacing between words, pointing to the words
to reread our writing to see if it makes sense. We will work on
correcting our writing so it will make sense to others. In Math we
will play many games to reinforce numbers and counting backwards,
comparing numbers, composing and decomposing numbers, and
counting on from a certain number, writing the number before and
after a given number.
For Social Studies we will be talking about Holidays and
Traditions. In Science, we will continue our scientist of the day
lessons.
Scientist of the Day
Your child was assigned a day and a project. Your child will do the
experiment at home and then bring in the materials and explain it and do it
with the class. Projects will begin Nov. 27th and end Jan. 10 th. Your child will
be graded on the experiment and his/her lesson taught to the class. You will
need to keep your child’s experiment in a safe place. The date will be on the
instruction page. He/she will have a worksheet to record that will need to be
returned and explained to the class on the day of the experiment. Please
keep up with the paper, it takes a lot of time for me to assign, put in my
lesson plans, and copy and then go find the lesson and pull that particular
information again if it is lost. If your child is sick on his/her day, I will give
them a makeup day in January. You are welcome to come and watch your
child teach the lesson. Please practice at home and pretend to be the
audience. We will have a Q and A session at the end of each experiment. Our
science time is at 12:35-1:05. So, if you are coming just sign in at the office
and come to the classroom. This is so much fun for everyone!
Class Holiday Party
You will receive an email from our room parents about
helping or sending supplies for our party. It will be on
Monday, December 18th at 1:40-2:40. We only need four or
five parent helpers and they will coordinate this.

Change in Winter Break Dates: Dec. 20-Jan. 3 2018
Ways you can support your child’s learning at home:
 Have your child read to someone each night for 10-
15 min.
 Have your child practice writing simple sentences
capitalization and punctuation
 Play a word wall word game (ideas on the back of
the list sent at BTS night)
 Help your child sound out words and write about a
topic of interest using details in a story and
drawing pictures to go with the words.
 Count backwards from 20
 Generate a number that is one more than or one
less than another number up to 20 ( also a new
requirement from the state)
 Practice counting by 5’s to 100 orally
 Have your child practice writing first and last
name
