English 110: 21st Century Science Fiction

Dr. Amber Strother

Spring 2018
Creative Project: Parts 2 and 3
200 points

Artifact
This part of the project should be seen as a chance to use what you have read, seen, and
absorbed in the class to provide a creative interpretation of one of our texts. Using our
discussions and readings about novels, films, television shows, and video games, you will be
creating your own interpretation of a text by creating an artifact of some type – physical, digital,
etc. How you choose to approach your text is largely up to you, but it must be approved via the
project proposal. Be creative, use the research and the class to help you make your choices.

Project Requirements:
You must engage with the theme of science fiction literature as discussed in the course.
Your project must engage with the text in a multimodal way (more than one medium). It
should demonstrate original interpretation, thoughtful reflection, and an understanding
of the science fiction genre. While the finalized version is not due until May 4th, you will
need a project that is nearly complete to present during the final two weeks of the class.

Introduction
Along with your project, you will write an introduction of 500-750 words that explains and
conceptualizes your project. The goal of the introduction is to give the reader/viewer/listener
some idea of your approach and process as well as provide a context for the project you have
created. Some version of this will be displayed with the artifact during your presentation. What
was your goal for the project? How does this provide a new view of the text? What insights does
your project offer that the original does not? What were the challenges you faced? In addition,
this introduction should engage with what you have learned in the class to help contextualize
and justify your project. While you are not required to include sources in this introduction, you
are welcome to include them as long as you provide citations and a works cited page for
anything that you reference in the writing.

Due: draft – day of presentation; final May 4 by 5 p.m.
