Ongoing Hotel business in Thamel

1. Background:-

Among most of the business in Nepal, one the most flexible and profitable business is the
hotel business. Hotel business in Nepal has spread in different places and is the one of the
source of livelihood to the people. Due to the huge scope of hotel business, we the team of 4
members accepted the opportunity to learn about the hotel business in practical way. Wisely,
we took the opportunity to learn about the problems, opportunities, challenges, and many
more aspects. As the center of Kathmandu valley and the most reputed place for the tourist to
stay and visit, our team planned to conduct our survey in Thamel. We choosed thamel as our
site because Thamel is most renown for the place where many internal as well as external
tourists visit. Tourist mostly stays in Thamel area. In the due course of the research, we
visited different small as well as large hotels in Thamel. As per the objectives, we asked the
manager of different hotel about the condition of hotel business. From the research we gained
many information on the field of hotel sectors and tourism sector of Nepal. Likewise, we
interacted with many peoples and got the idea of hotel business running in the area. By the
research we came to know about different advantages and disadvantages of hotel business in
comparison and its effect in the income as well prospect of the individuals.

2. Objectives:-

The specific objectives of this study are as follows:

i. To know about the ongoing problems of hotel business in Thamel.


ii. To know about the prospects of hotel business in Thamel area.
iii. To know about the management methods of different hotels.
3. Research Methodology

Research means in depth study about particular subject or area of investigation followed by
complication, presentation and interpretation of relevant data.

The methodology covers issues that relate the type of data collected, the way it was collected
and analyzed. The method that we have followed for our research is observation, interview
and questionnaire.

4. Research Design

As per the nature of research and researcher problem, researcher uses different types of
research design. Such design can be descriptive, exploratory or experimental, etc. Our
research is exploratory.

5. Study Area

Our study area is hotels of Thamel area. The main reason we selected Thamel is because
there is a competition between hotel and service sector to give the best satisfaction to the
visitors. This can be very helpful for us to know different strategies and functioning of
various Hotels.
6. Sources of data

Within the study area, this study is based on primary data. We use primary data since our
study is related to structural questionnaire directly to respondents to get the information’s
which is available from secondary data.

7. Study Population

The population of this study was taken from the hotels of Thamel area.

8 .Sample
From the population, we select total 30 size/respondents/visitors, etc as a sample. We
prepared structural questionnaire with both closed and open ended questions to obtain
information on stated objectives. The questionnaire we divided into three section A:
information regarding research and researcher, section B: general information about
respondents and section C: main body of the questions.

8. Pretesting of questionnaire and survey implementation


The questionnaire was pre-tested on that lies on study area to check their reliability and
validity before the main survey (actual data collection).

The reason behind conducting pre-test survey was to avoid ambiguity of some of the
questionnaires items.

The pretesting of questionnaire was conducted on_____. The final interviews were conducted
in purposive sampling.
