I am Arwa babiker Gabir , a fourth year medical student at
university of Khartoum applying for the professional exchange program
for this year , applying for a chance to change , a change that starts by
me and hopefully flourishes to help an entire community .
I am a medical education activist , an activist for change for the
better , I chose medical education because it’s where the most benefit
and the most needing area of the effort for betterment can be given. I
work in making better medical students in my LMO , and the reason I
think this is important is that if you think about it that’s how I get to
help the bigger number of people , we’re all , as medical students are
here to give back and help our community , teaching and helping
medical students how to treat and help patients more professionally is
the best way to do that , treating people one patient at a time is
something , but making better doctors who will –on their own- treat a
larger number of people plus the better quality of medical help this
provides is another.
Change starts by changing ourselves , and I believe that being a
part of this exchange program Is the best way for me to become a
better medical student , I’ll get to meet others medical students and
exchange all kinds of beneficial info on how to survive and provide
later on and become a better doctor , I’ll get to meet other doctor role
models that will guide me on how to have the best clinical experience
ever ,and last but not least , help me become a better medical
education advocator , our clinical teaching program in sudan is clearly
not the best , and so many problems regarding the clinical skills
courses are arising in our faculty here at university of Khartoum ,
witnessing how other countries and universities tackle all these
problems and how their system functions will give me a great deal of
information that I will be able to portray back here and hopefully have
a better insight on how to get rid of these difficulties as it is my duty as
a medical education officer to look for solutions and find ways to
implement them , my fifth year research is about this , about how
students see their clinical skills programs and how they prefer it to be ,
other countries have crossed miles when it comes to clinical teaching
programs and peer teaching initiatives ..etc , becoming a part of this
8/9
program may potentially give me more background data on this topic
since it is a young a child in the world of published researches.
And finally , the words I want to leave you with is a “ help me ,
help others” cliché . I will go there and become a better doctor
myself .. learn new ways to communicate with different cultures ,
become a better medical educationist like I mentioned above , and I
strongly believe that with the great motivation I have and the skills my
vitae proves I will be the best representative there could be. I am open
minded , I deal with situations considering all the parties involved
specially when am walking around with my country’s and university’s
name on my forehead.
Sincerely ,
Arwa Babiker.
KMSA LOME.
