Battlebotconstructionrules

(2017-5-25-EN版本)
Overview
This article is the rules for constructing the battlebots joining
the "KING OF BOTS" robot fighting competition (hereinafter
referred to as "The game").
These rules are formulated in accordance with the principles
of fair play and safe competition.
The rules are the entry requirements for players to design
and to construct battlebots, satisfying these rules does not
demonstrate the players having the eligibility to join the
competition. The final qualification shall be subject to the
notice from the event council.

Section 1 Basic construction requirements

1.1. Movement
The robot can move in any way: wheel, tank tread, walking,
rolling, flying ... but its movement must be controllable and
causing damage to the playing field is prohibited.
The minimum speed of the robot is 2 m/s. (The participating
robots are expected to move at a speed of 3 m/s or more, for
slow-moving robots, a powerful weapon is needed as a
compensation for strength).

1.2. Control
Remote controllers are required to control the functionalities
and movements of the robot.
The robot can have some intelligent automation functions,
but the functionality must be able to be disabled at any time
by the remote control.

1.3. Weapon system

The participating robot can use a variety of weapon systems
including catapult, swivel knife, hammer, grab arm, etc.
The participating robot must have at least one independently
operated weapon system which must be sufficient to destroy
or affect the operation of the opponent robot.
It is recommended that the weapon system is modular design
and can be easily replaced. Because if the weapon system is
damaged and cannot be replaced with a new one that meets
the requirements, the player loses the eligibility to continue
in the competition.

1.4. Protection for internal components

The battery, the high-pressure gas tank, the fuel tank and its
pipeline and any flammable/explosive parts inside the robot
must be adequately protected. (Request: cannot be touched
by long screw drivers from outside of the robot
from the use of long rod screwdriver)

1.5. Size
Length: less than 2 meters, width: less than 2 meters, height:
less than 2 meters.
(The figures are counted, when the robot parts are in the
state of being folded, and the protection device is not
counted.)
1.6. Ground clearance
There is no special requirement for the ground clearance of
the robot, but there are splicing gaps, bumpy areas as well as
pop-up trap or obstacles in the venue, 10mmabove the
ground is therefore recommended as the minimum ground
clearance.

1.7. Maximum weight

The maximum weight of the participating robot is 110 kg; the
minimum is 90 kg.
Where the maximum weight for drones is 5 kg.
The weight of the robot is subject to the measurement from
the event council, and the measurement data from other
organizations are not applicable.
PS1: the safety cover for participating robots does not count
as robot weight.
PS2: Telemetry and camera equipment installed by this
tournament, does not count as robot weight.

1.8. Participating robot number

The competition allows multiple units of robots to participate
in the forms of master-slave robots, twin robots or
multiplayer robots. The total number limit of robots is 7.
PS1: For master-slave form, the design of master robot must
comply with the speed and weapon requirements.
PS2: For multi-robot form, at least one robot must comply
with the speed and weapon requirements.
PS3: The weight sum of all the participating robots must
comply with the weight requirements.
1.9. Backup robot
To ensure the game proceed smoothly, the tournament
allows the use of backup robots. But the backup robots must
have the same structure and appearance as the participating
robot.

Section 2 Start up and shutdown

The startup and shutdown of robots must be easy and safe.

2.1. Switches
It is required that robots having at least two switches
One for the mobile system, which can cut off the mobile
system power directly;
Another for the weapon system, which can cut off the power
of the weapon system directly.
(For multiple weapon systems, one switch can be used to
control all weapons at the same time, or multiple switches
controls individual systems separately.)
The requirements for each switch are:
1) The operation must be simple and convenient.
2) The switch operation does not require lifting or tilting the
robot.
3) When the switch is being operated, the position of the
operator's body cannot be on the path of the weapon. (it
requires a sufficiently safe weapon restraint when switch
operating position is under a rotating weapon).
5) A spare operating tool is needed when the switch needs a
special tool to operate.
6) The operation of the switch must be completed within a
limited time.

2.2. Activation
The maximum time for activating the robot is 60 seconds.
(Including the time to operate the protective cover and safety
restrictions, the activation of multiple robots can be done by
multiple players at the same time.)
When activating the robot, it must be ensured that the robot
and its weapons cannot be active before the player operates
remotely.

2.3. Shutdown
The maximum time to shut down the robot is 60 seconds.
When shutting down the robot, it must be ensured that
players can safely complete the shutdown operation.
If the robot is severely damaged or overturned in the race,
the time to turn off the robot will not be required.

Section 3 Section 3 Remote control

Robot remote control system must be a commercially

available 2.4GHz product.
There need to be a variety of adjustable pairing channels
between the transmitter and the receiver.
The remote-control system signal must not interfere with the
signals of other systems.
When the remote-control system fails, the robots must stop
all the action.

Section 4 Materials of constructing the battlebot

The basic principle for the battlebot in the game, is not

power. If the event council finds that the robotic weapon is
not powerful enough to destroy or paralyze other robots, the
robot will not be eligible to join the game.

5.1. Single weapon system

The robot's weapon function can be remotely controlled by
the player.
Weapons need to have an independent power system, the
wedge shovel fixed on the robot without power does not
count as weapon systems.
PS1: Overhead Thwackbots can be considered as an
independent weapon system that meets the requirements of
this event. Thwackbots are not considered to be independent
of the requirements of this event.

5.2. Mutli-weapon system

The battlebots need at least xx?weapon capable of destroying
the opponent. Apart from the main weapon, more weapons
can be installed in the battlebot as well.
This game encourages the use of modular weapons that can
be replaced for different opponents, but no matter which
weapon is installed, the battlebot cannot be overweight. And
the replacement part of the module quality should be less
than 55 kg.
5.3. Flame weapons
The use of the flame system as a weapon is encouraged, the
basic requirements are:

Continuous fuel leakage from the fuel tank and its exhaust
system must not occur when the bot is upside down.
Only methanol or unleaded petrol can be used as petrol, and
the maximum amount is 1L.

Section 9 Pneumatic System

Pneumatic system is relatively dangerous; it is recommended
to use other power systems if the player is not familiar with
pneumatic systems.

Requirements for Pneumatic Systems:

1. Gas use: only nitrogen or compressed air is allowed;
carbon dioxide is not allowed.
2. System pressure: the maximum allowable pressure in
the gas tank is 30MPa; the maximum pressure of the
regulating system is 2.5MPa and the absolute maximum
pressure is 7MPa. (you must apply in advance with this
tournament and provide the required proof of the
material, if the regulating system has a pressure of more
than 2.5 MPa.)
3. System design: There is no specific restriction on system
design, but it must be a reliable and safe solution. The
system components should be sold by regular
manufacturers. (The use of self-made or custom
pneumatic components, must be notice the event
council in advance, and provide the required proofs of
material, to obtain the approval from the event council)
4. Installing an air compressor in the battlebots for
compressing air into a buffer tank is allowed. During the
preparation time between the game officially began and
just after the door closed, the bots can pressurize the
buffer tank.
5. When the bot is in a failed state, there must be a way to
turn off the pneumatic system. Including but not limited
to the installation of relief valves on the buffer tank.
6. Any act of heating the gas tank or the buffer tank is not
allowed.
7. All pneumatic components must be able to withstand
pressure tests that are 1.2 times of the standard
pressure test.
8. The gas tank of pneumatic system needs to have a
separate manual closing valve, and in an easy to operate
position.
9. Exhaust valves must be installed on pneumatic system
pipeline, so that it can release all the gas in the system.
10. High-pressure safety valves are required to be
installed on the gas tank of pneumatic system, the
safety valve pressure relief valveshall be lower than the
maximum pressure of the tank. The ones equipped with
a buffer tank need to install additional high-pressure
safety valve on the linkage between the buffer bottle
and the pipelines, the relief value should be lower than
the maximum pressure of the buffer bottle.
11. It is recommended that the gas tank of pneumatic
system having an easy installation/removal procedure
and using inflatable equipment that has a 8mm fast
connector interface which is provided by the event
council.

Section 10 Hydraulic System

Requirements for hydraulic systems:
1. The maximum system pressure allowed for the hydraulic
system is 60 MPa.
2. The hydraulic oil must be non-flammable, non-corrosive,
medium toxic and consistent with the maximum
pressure used in the hydraulic system.
3. There are no specific restrictions on the design of the
hydraulic system, but it must be a reliable and safe
solution. The system components should be sold by
regular manufacturers. (The use of self-made or custom
hydraulic components, must notice the event council in
advance, and provide the required proof of material, to
obtain the approval from the event council)
4. The hydraulic tank must be adequately protected.
5. When the robot is in a failed state, there must be a way
to turn off the hydraulic system.
6. The hydraulic system needs to be fitted with a relief
valve whose threshold value should be less than the
maximum pressure of the main system.
7. Storage tank and other pressurized energy storage
devices are not allowed in the hydraulic system.

Section 11 Robot handling safety

For the parts of bots which might be harmful to human (not
just weapons), it is necessary to install protective covers to
avoid accidental injury.
If a part of bot is movable when it is not activated, and may
cause injury to people, it must be safely restricted.
If the bot's protective cover and safety restrictions are
considered insufficient, the battlebot will not be able to join
the game.
Players need to use the vehicle to send the robot into the
venue. Players can bring their own vehicles or use the vehicle
provided by the event council.

Section 12 Installation of telemetry packets

During the game, a self-powered telemetry packet might be
installed on the participating battlebot. Thus, there is a need
of a space inside the robot that can accommodate a size of
100 mm x 60 mm x 15 mm for placing telemetry packets.

Section 13 Battlebot appearance

The appearance of the battlebot must comply with broadcast
requirements of the State Administration of Press, Publication,
Radio, Film and Television of The People’s Republic of China
and other relevant cultural departments of the television
network. The event council has the right to
