In order to be eligible to letter in orchestra a students must be in high school
(grades 9-12) and accumulate at least 100 points by accomplishing or participating in the following activities.
1. Mentoring or Performing in a group outside of the school orchestra they
perform in. These include but are not limited to: Bemidji Symphony Orchestra, Bemidji Youth Symphony, Pit Orchestras for musical (high school or community), Church music groups, accompanying vocal events, performing with another high school ensemble (Choir or Band), wedding, public solo or chamber performance, performance at middle or elementary school. Please ask if it is not on this list. BSO – 10 Per Concert BHS Musical – 10 Vocalmotive – 10 LVB – 10 Others are depending on commitment (determined by director) 2. Private lessons with a teacher outside of school. Points Per lesson - 1 3. All-State Orchestra Audition Audition – 10 points Acceptance – 20 points Alternate – 15 points 4. Solo, Small and Large Group Contest (only one score used per year) Superior Rating – 20 points (30 if memorized) Excellent Rating – 15 points Good Rating – 10 points Fair Rating – 5 points 5. Attending a concert as an audience member Per concert – 1 point - (can also be used for concert review assignment) 6. String workshop or Honor Orchestra For each event – 5-15 points (depending on event) 7. Orchestra Librarian Assist with organization of music and handing out of parts for the orchestra. Per concert – 5 Points 8. Orchestra Officer Hold an orchestra officer position. Per Year – 10 Points 9. Section Leader Serving as a section leader at any point during the year 10 points 10. Fundraising Participation in an Orchestra Fundraiser Per Fundraiser – 2 points
