1.0 INTRODUCTION
Arvandan Oil and Gas company intends to construct an 8" N.B. buried flowline
from Sohrab WH1 to South Azadegan North Cluster.
Sohrab Field is located at North of Azadegan Field, and 115 Km North West of
Ahwaz right along the international border with Iraq.
1.2 Scope
1.2.1 This specification covers the general design, construction, inspection and testing for
LV synchronous generator with its accessories.
1.2.2 Generating set shall be designed for continuous running duty, maximum continuous
rating and shall be capable of maintaining the specified kVA output at nominal
voltage and frequency under the specified service conditions (3 phase, 4 wire,
400/230V and star connected).
1.2.3 The equipment shall consist of all requested parts for a diesel engine, synchronous
generator, voltage regulator, auto-start system, circuit breaker, control panel and
other sundry items required to meet the specified operating conditions.
1.2.4 Detailed specific design requirements for emergency diesel generator are given in
Single Line Diagrams and Data Sheets.
In any case the vendor shall inform purchaser and obtain clarification before
proceeding with any work.

2.2.2 Metric SI system of units shall be applied to all dimensions and relevant documents.

2.3 Language
3.1.1 The set will be operated as an emergency generating set (Continuous duty
operation). It will not be operated in parallel with the National Grid Power System, or
with other standby supply sets. The load shall mainly consist of D.O.L start, cage
induction motors, with locked rotor kVA as specified in IEC 34-12, Lighting, UPS &
Chargers. Full detail regarding the nature of the load is specified in Data Sheets.
The set shall be capable of accepting full load from cold start. The generator,
coupling and engine driver shall be torsion matched by the generator set supplier to
assure freedom from deleterious mechanical effects or generated electrical
characteristics.
Speed controller shall be design in order to below conditions:
Under normal steady state operating conditions when the load is variable
between 10% to 100% of the nominal load, the governor shall maintain the
frequency of the generators electrical output within 1% of the value identified
for all loading conditions.
Under transient condition when the load suddenly changes 20% (step shape
changes) of nominal load, the governor shall maintain the frequency of the
generators electrical output within 2% of the value identified for all loading
conditions.
A full load rejection shall be possible without causing an over speed trip.
3.1.2 The alternator shall be of the continuously rated revolving field, salient pole
construction with heavy copper damper windings, self-exciting, self regulating,
brushless type.
3.1.3 The alternator shall be fan ventilated screen protected drip proof and preferably
fitted with air intake filters.
3.1.4 The alternator shall be foot mounted and flexibly coupled to the diesel engine.

3.1.5 The starting system of diesel generator set shall be electrical type and shall include
24 V DC batteries and battery charger set. Battery charger should be installed
preferably inside of control panel with ammeter and voltmeter.
3.1.6 Batteries shall have suitable capacity for the relevant emergency diesel generator
set. Ni-cd batteries shall be used for generator sets with capacity up to 1000 kVA,
based on manufacturer recommendations.
3.1.7 The bearings shall be of ball or ball and roller long life heavy duty type, and grease
nipples are to be provided in the end shields for bearing lubrication.
3.1.9 Cooling air shall be drawn in from the non-drive end and discharged at the drive end
in such a manner that the discharged air does not pass over the prime mover.
3.1.10 A star point terminal box shall be provided to house a current transformer for the
restricted earth fault protection.
3.1.11 Two earthing stud threaded 12 mm minimum shall be provided on the base frame.
3.1.12 Ingress Protection of enclosure shall be IP23 for indoor (with filter equipped air
inlets) and IP54 for outdoor installation under shelter, in all cases terminal boxes for
outdoor installation shall be IP55 as minimum according to IPS-E-EL-138.
3.1.13 The generator shall be capable of withstanding 20 percent of over speed for two
minute without mechanically injury.
3.1.15 An automatic change over switch shall be provided to change from mains to engine
driven charging when the set is running.
3.1.16 Control system:
- Each generator shall be capable to fully automatically start when other
generator going out of service due to reduce of inerruption on loads
feeding.
- The control system of generators shall be capable to send all alarm and
control/protection signals to main control system via one safe and proper
chanel. This chanel can be common with instrument and control system
chenel, if possibie.
3.2 Rating
3.2.1 The generator shall be designed for 3-phase, 4-wire, wye connected, 400/230 volts,
50 Hz and solidly earthed neutral system and shall be rated for the maximum
continuous full load KVA at 0.8 Power Factor lagging power factor as specified in
Data Sheets under the site service conditions stated in section 1.5 of this
specification.
3.2.2 Generator rating shall be such that it can safely deliver maximum output at all
ambient temperature range, at a power lagging with guaranteed maximum
temperature rise as follows:
a. Stator insulation: Class F
Limit of temperature rise: Class B
3.3.1 The voltage regulator shall be of the silicon controlled rectifier type, complete with
voltage adjusting rheostat for separate mountings.
3.3.2 The regulator shall provide a no load to full load regulation of +2% from no load, cold
to hot, at any power factor between 0.8 lagging and unity with balanced loading.
3.3.3 The regulator shall be capable of rapid response to transient load changes,
recovering to 3% of the steady state voltage conditions in less than 0.5 seconds
upon the application of full load at 0.8 Power Factor in the case of naturally aspirated
engines, or 75% of full load in the case of turbo charged engines, by means of
automatic voltage regulator.
3.3.4 A matching short circuit excitation maintenance kit shall be provided with the voltage
regulator to enable a short circuit current of at least 3 times normal full load current
to be maintained for 10 seconds.
3.3.5 Under the transient condition of the starting direct-on-line of the largest induction
motor, or load changes, the initial voltage drop shall not exceed 10% of the rated

voltage, and the voltage recovery shall be within 3% in less than 0.5 second. Manual
voltage adjustment by potentiometer within the range of ±10% of nominal voltage
shall also be possible.
3.4.1 Six ends of the windings shall be brought out to a common terminal box and
connected in star with tinned copper links. The neutral point shall be brought out for
solid earthing.
3.4.3 The class of insulation shall be class F according to B.S. 2757 and shall not be
tapered. The neutral shall be insulated for the full line to line voltage. The winding
insulation shall be designed for use on an unearthed 3-phase 4-wire system.
3.4.4 The windings shall be securely braced and impregnated and baked for a tropical
environment and finished overall with a hard setting oil and moisture resistant anti-
tracking varnish.
3.4.5 Based on a maximum cooling air intake temperature of 55°C, the vendor shall
guarantee that the generator winding temperature rise shall not exceed 65°C
(measured by resistance) for continuous duty (duty type S1 to B.S. 4999) including a
10% over load capability of 1 hour in any period of 12 hours of continuous running.
3.4.6 Anti—condensation heaters shall be installed in the generator for use on 230 volts,
50 HZ single phase supply. These shall be wired to a terminal box, separate from
the main terminal box.
3.5.1 The shaft shall be precision machined from high quality steel and shall carry the
alternator rotating field system, the A.C. exciter rotor, the rotary 3-phase full wave
rectifier assembly and cooling fan.
3.5.2 The complete rotor assembly shall be securely braced and dynamically balanced on
completion.
3.5.3 The rotor shall be salient pole construction with a heavy duty (interconnected)
copper damper winding.
3.5.4 The insulation system for the main fields such as exciter winding shall be class F
according to B.S. 2757.

3.5.5 Avalanche silicon diodes or normal silicon diodes maybe used for the rotary rectifier
assembly. If normal silicon diodes are used, a selenium “clip-cell”, silicon surge
suppression device or non-linear resistor must be fitted.
3.5.6 A slow speed protection device, 96% of normal speed, shall be provided to ensure
that no harm can be done to the diodes or the exciter windings due to “field forcing”
(over excitation) during rapid load changes.
3.5.7 The rotating rectifier assembly shall also be provided with cooling fans.
3.5.8 The generator field winding shall be capable of operating at 125 % or rated load field
voltage at least 1 minute starting from stabilized temperature at rated conditions.
Because rated field winding temperatures will be exceeded under these conditions,
the machine construction shall be based upon the assumption that the number of such
operations at field voltages to the above limits will occur not more than twice per year.
3.6.1 Vendor shall provide a control panel protected to IP42 or IP55, the panel shall
include circuit breaker, all necessary relays, instrumentation, etc. as per Single Line
Diagrams and Data Sheets.
3.6.2 The control panel can be mounted on the base frame of the generator unit skid by
means of suitable vibration isolators.
3.6.3 All protective and control relays shall be solid state or microprocessor type.
3.6.4 Particular attention is drawn to the requirements for reliability at the site ambient
temperature. All electrical components (especially solid state & microprocessor
based devices) shall withstand the operating ambient temperature.
3.6.5 The control panel shall include the following instruments and protective relays and
another items that are:
- Indicator lamps for battery failure, fuel solenoid ‘on’, low fuel alarm, run
situation, ‘Off’.

- The height of control switch and pushbuttons on control panel shall be minimum
1500mm and maximum 1750 mm from ground level.
3.6.6 The generator control panel shall be of totally enclosed 2.5 mm thick sheet steel
construction , damp and dust protected to IP55 protected by canopy resiliently
mounted on the generating set main frame , unless otherwise specified with hinged
and lockable access doors.
The enclosure of control panel shall be constructed and assembled so that it will
have the strength and rigidity necessary to resist the abuses to which it is likely to be
subjected , without total or partial collapse resulting in a risk of fire electric shock or
injury to persons due to reduction of spacing Loosing or displacement of parts or
other serious defects .
3.6.8 The control panel for the generator shall include all controls , instruments, Relays
pertinent CTS and indications to provide complete control of the Generator.
3.6.9 Electrical instruments shall be of the flush mounted industrial grade, enclosed in dust
and damp proof casing non projecting dial with non-reflecting window and in
compliance with the requirements of pertinent parts of IEC51.
3.6.10 The following are accessories which may be selected depending on ratings, Voltage
and application of specific cases these devices shall include , but not be limited to
the following :
a) Power factor meter
b) Var meter, Frequency meter
c) Under/Over frequency protection
d) Short circuit sustaining protection
e) Ground fault protection
f) Differential protection
g) Surge protection
h) Lightning arrester
i) Synchronizing check relay
j) Low fuel alarm
k)Anti-condensation heater
l) Three attempt automatic start relay
m) Over load, indicator lamp with re-set push button

3.6.11 Ground fault resistors where applicable shall be specified by generator manufacture.
3.6.12 The control panel shall include an isolator, changeover contactors to switch the
generator output, and instruments , switches , relays , battery charger and indication
to provide complete control of the generator set.
3.7.2 All terminal board points shall be identified with printed wire numbers on a center
mounted strip. All wires shall be terminated with suitable lugs.
3.7.3 All internal wiring shall be identified by the use of numbered plastic sleeves or by
direct printing on the wires. The internal wire and terminal numbers shall correspond
to those shown on the shop drawings.
3.7.4 All wiring shall run in harness formation, using adequate cleats for harness support.
3.7.5 Outgoing circuits shall be arranged for cables rising vertically from the floor, with
cable glands mounted on suitably gland plates. Suitable cable glands of the
compression type shall be supplied for power and control cables with the type and
sizes as shown in Data Sheets.
3.7.6 All control and instrumentation wiring located on the engine-generator set shall be
terminated in a suitable terminal box mounted on the engine-generator set. The
manufacture shall provide a wiring diagram showing all field installed wiring between
the engine-generator set, terminal box and the Generator Control Panel. All wiring
terminating in the terminal box shall use compression type ring lugs and lock
washers.
3.7.7 Terminal and wire numbering in the terminal box shall correspond to terminal and
wire numbering in the Generator Control Panel.

3.8.2 Main contact shall comprise single break per phase, butt type, fixed and moving
contacts designed so that short circuit forces increase contact pressure. Main
contacts shall be silver plated or silver-nickel tipped, fixed and moving arcing
contacts shall be silver tungsten tipped.
3.8.3 Arc chutes shall consist of removable moulded asbestos cement boxes fitted with
steel splitter plates, arcs being completely contained under all operating conditions,
and all Products are being de-ionized.
3.8.4 Isolation contacts temporarily exposed when air circuit breakers are withdrawn shall
automatically be shielded behind lockable covers.
3.8.5 The circuit breaker shall be stored energy type equipped with spring assisted motor
recharger mechanism energized from the 24 V DC starting battery. Provision shall
also be made for manual spring recharging.
3.8.6 The circuit breaker shall be derated for use in the specified climatic conditions. The
amount of derating shall be stated by the tender at the quotation stage.
3.8.7 The Circuit breaker shall be provided with all the required auxiliary contacts plus two
normally open and two normally closed spare auxiliary contacts for the purchaser’s
future use.
3.8.8 The circuit breaker tripping and closing shall be effected by means of shunt trip and
closing coils, respectively, energized from the 24 V DC starting battery. The circuit
breaker closing shall be trip free.
1. Solid state logic circuitry annunciator unit for indication of all the engine, generator
and feeder circuit alarms and trips complete with “Acknowledge”, “Reset” and
“Lamp Test” pushbuttons. All annunciator lamps shall operate on the “First Out”
principle. Alarms and shutdowns shall be connected to provide a common alarm
and shutdown for engine, generator and feeder circuit respectively and wired out
to terminals for the purchaser’s use.
2. Set of main and auxiliary cable connections complete with brass compression type
cable glands to suit the type of cables specified in Data Sheets.
3. Remote alarm indications via voltage free (dry) contacts (rated 230 V,3A),wired
out to the panel terminal block.

Radio interference suppression shall comply with or better than, the relevant
sections of B.S. 800.
3.11 Vibration
1. Engine unbalance: vibrations resulting from free inertia forces and couples

To establish the vibration behavior of the engine, mechanical vibrations above 5Hz
measurable at the surface, at bearings or at fitting points shall be analyzed and
tabulated.
The operating conditions under which the measurements are to be made shall be
defined in the vendor's proposal, and the measuring points and methods to be used
shall be clearly indicated in the proposals. The vendor shall guarantee and test
vibration levels during shop mechanical running tests.
Engine vibrations shall not cause any engine part to be damaged not cause the
fracture of any attached pipe work or electrical connections as well as any part of
coupled generator.
The noise level shall be measured in dBA and octave bands from 63 Hz to 8 kHz in
accordance with either of the ISO Standard Nos 3744 or 3745 or equivalent national
standards.
If the engine cannot be tested in a test environment satisfying the requirements of
any of the specified standards, the noise level test may, subject to specific written
company approval, be made according to ISO Standard No 3746 or an equivalent
national standard. Octave band readings shall, however, still be made.
The exhaust noise level shall be measured at three positions at 60° intervals one
meter from the edge of the opening. The line joining the measurement position and
the edge of the opening shall from an angle of 60° with the plane of the opening.
When being tested, the diesel engine shall be isolated from extraneous noise such
as:
If a skid forms part of the equipment, the engine shall be installed on that skid when
tested.
The Emergency Diesel Generator Vendor shall specify in his proposal the
recommended spare parts for:
The pre-commissioning & commissioning period
A two year operation period
3.13.1 Spare parts shall comply with the same standards, specification and tests of the
original equipment and shall be fully interchangeable with the original parts without
any modification at site.
13.3.2 They shall be correctly marked in accordance with client reference and
manufacturer part numbers, giving also the purchaser’s order number.

13.3.3 Spare parts shall be preserved to prevent deterioration during shipment and
storage in humid tropical climate.
13.3.4 List of recommended spare parts and interchangeability with spare parts of similar
equipment shall be submitted by supplier.
13.3.5 Vendor shall supply all documents needed for spare parts coding.
A metallic corrosion resistant rating plate shall be fixed on the generator frame and
shall give the following information's in English:
a) Manufacturer ۥs name
b) Customer order No. and date
c) Type and frame size and serial No
d) Year of Manufacture
e) Rated output in KVA
f) Rated power factor
g) Rated voltage
h) Rated frequency
i) R.P.M. at rated output
j) Class of insulation
k) Rated current
l) Transient and sub transient reactance
m) Standards reference numbers and date
n) Phase rotation clockwise or counter clockwise.
o) Exciter voltage and current at rated output
p) Weight of rotor and stator in KG.
3.15 Tools
The VENDOR shall supply a set of any special tools necessary for maintenance
purposes. The tool box shall be welded to the skid base and lockable.

3.16 Finish
3.16.1 All surfaces to be painted shall be thoroughly cleaned and degreased prior to
painting.
3.16.2 The paint finish shall consist of primer, under coat and top coat to manufacturers
standard industrial gloss finish, impervious to oil and fuel. The overall paint finish
shall be suitable for the climate conditions specified.
The preparation shall be suitable for at least 6 months of outdoor storage from the
time of shipment in a manner requiring no disassembly prior to operation (except
for bearing and seal operations).
4.2 The supplier shall provide the purchaser with the instructions necessary to
preserve the integrity of the storage preparation after the equipment arrives at job
site.
4.3 Preparation for shipment shall be made after all testing and inspection of the
equipment has been accomplished and the equipment has been released for
shipment.
The preparation shall include those specified in 4.3.1 through4.3.10 which follows:
4.3.1 Exterior surfaces except for machined surfaces should have been painted.
4.3.2 Exterior machined surfaces shall be coated with a suitable rust preventive.
4.3.3 After having been thoroughly drained and cleaned, internal areas of bearing and
all auxiliary equipment in oil lubrication system using carbon steel shall be coated
with a suitable oil soluble rust preventive.
4.3.4 Flanged opening shall be provided with metal closure at least 5 millimeters thick
with synthetic rubber gaskets.
At least four full diameter bolts shall be used for flanged opening.
4.3.5 Threaded opening shall be provded with steel caps or solid shank still plugs. In no
case shall nonmetallic plugs or caps be used.
4.3.6 The rotors shall be blocked to prevent axial and radial movements.
4.3.7 Space heater leads shall be accessible without disturbing the shipping page and
shall be suitably tagged for easy identification.
4.3.8 Lifting points if not obvious or lugs shall be clearly marked. Each generator shall
be properly identified with item and serial numbers.

All material shipped in separate crates shall be suitably identified with securely
affixed corrosion resistant metal tags indicating the item and serial number of the
equipment for which it is intended.
4.4 The greatest care must be taken to ensure that shipping and associated
documents with exact description for custom release are accompanied with the
shipment.
All engineering data provided for this equipment shall show equipment as specified
and ordered. Engineering data as listed as following shall be supplied in the
quantities shown on the “vendor data requirements (VDR)” document attached to
material requisition for diesel generator.

Further more the supplier shall guarantee the provision of spare parts to the
purchaser for a minimum period of ----- years from the date of dispatch.
6.4.1.2 The quoted rates shall be irrespective of duration and frequency and the supplier
shall guarantee the services of the engineer(s) and technician(s) on the specified
date within a minimum of -------------- weeks advance notice by the purchaser.
6.4.2 Training
6.4.2.1 The purchaser may require the supplier to arrange for training of his personnel in
the manufacturing plant and or in site for the operation and maintenance of the
equipment offered.
6.4.2.2 The supplier shall quote (if required) for the cost of any of above mentioned
services on a per person per diem basis. The program for the training shall be
prepared by mutual agreement. An advance notice of --------------- weeks
minimum, is required by purchaser for the commencement of training program.
