My name is Morgan Davis and I am 23 years old.

I have been a graduate student for almost a full

year now and am in the Master for Special Education Program. I got my bachelors degree from

Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Psychology with a minor in Spanish. While I love

psychology I felt like I belonged at a school working with students and believe that it is the

career that I will love going to every day and make me happy. Getting my minor in Spanish was

a tough decision as it took a lot of work and studying to learn a new language. I am so happy that

I accomplished getting my minor because it has helped me learn about a new culture and speak a

new language, which, I hope, will help me with my future. During my undergraduate years I

began working with a teenage boy who has Autism Spectrum Disorder. After a few years of

working with him, and learning about him I decided ultimately that I wanted to work with

students who also have ASD, and become a special education teacher. Currently I am still

working with the same young man and have been for about 4 years now. I am not a teacher yet,

but I love my current job working with the young man I am with, however ultimately I want to

become a teacher so that I can work with more students.

While school has been a big part of my life for a few years now as I went from undergrad

straight into graduate school my family and friends are also a big part of my life. I come from a

large family who I spend a lot of time with at the beach, going out to dinner, and just hanging out

with them in general. I am very close with my aunts, uncles, and cousins and feel very lucky that

I have a strong relationship with my extended family and they help me get through the long years

of school. In my free time I also like to go to the gym, which is a good thing since I also love to

bake whenever I get the chance. I also enjoy taking my German Shepard—Piper on hikes and

finding new walking trails that we can go and explore. She is very active and loves running,

playing with her toys, and swimming. I also find reading in my spare time very relaxing and
when I start a good book it’s hard for me to put it down. Also, finding new good places to eat

with my friends is always a plus in my life!

I am here and in this class and program so that I can learn new techniques, expand my

knowledge on the best technology, procedures, and teaching strategies so that I can become a

teacher who can advocate for all of my students when I do become a teacher. I want to learn the

best way to advocate for students with disabilities, I am in this program to learn new teaching

techniques that I can incorporate into my classroom so that all my students get a meaningful

education, and so that not only my students get a good education, but parents also have faith in

me to teach and advocate for their children. I have also found that this program has given me the

opportunity to learn from my peers/classmates experience with teaching. In my past graduate

classes I have gotten the opportunity to work in groups and discuss different situations my peers

have been in while they are teaching. I find that this is so helpful to me, because I am not a

teacher therefore not only am I learning from my professors but I am learning from my peers. I

feel this program is the best fit for me, and I am learning a lot. I feel that this program has taught

me so many new techniques so far and I am continuing to learn a lot of new information that will

be very beneficial to my future. I look forward to learning in your class during this winter term!
