How to write a report
Reports classify or describe something (provide information and state facts). They are written in the
present tense and use technical terms.
A report begins with an introduction: a general statement to introduce the topic.
In the body of the report, a description of facts including qualities, habits and behaviours of the
subjects is essential. The body contains a series of paragraphs, each describing a different aspect
of the subject.
A concluding paragraph or statement brings the report to a close, summarising the information
in a general way. No new information is included in the conclusion.
Language should be impersonal, formal and technical (related to the subject).
